The Opportunity: Join our Specialty Casualty Team to provide strategic direction for underwriting portfolios in the region, ensuring growth and profitability. This role involves managing a team of underwriters, writing guidelines, underwriting complex new businesses, and offering specialist advice. Additionally, the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, and staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions. Location: Chicago (500 W. Madison, Suite 1250)
Work Arrangement: This role is hybrid, where you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week.
The salary range for this role is between $158,500-$237,500.
Your New Role:
Underwrite complex insurance risks following the business plan and personal authority to meet business objectives.
Manage a team of product specialists supporting all channels.
Ensure ongoing technical development of underwriters in line with staff development plans.
Apply reinsurance strategy to safeguard the portfolio.
Adhere to underwriting standards and good practices to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
Demonstrate an understanding of market dynamics to drive business performance.
Establish strong relationships with stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
Act as a role model and demonstrate good leadership behaviors.
Contribute to the development of the team's business plan to maximize productivity.
Support divisional underwriting function in managing talent for future capability.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Competencies:
Significant underwriting experience.
Established customer and broker relationships.
Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
