Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Lead CNC Machinist to join our team on the 2nd shift, working Monday - Friday from 3:30pm to 12:00am. The ideal candidate will assist the Machine Shop supervisor in providing leadership and guidance to department personnel, monitor methods, tooling, and work habits, and perform routine shop floor audits to identify opportunities for improvement. This role also involves fostering teamwork, providing technical training, and ensuring compliance with safety policies.

ResponsibilitiesAssist the Machine Shop supervisor in providing leadership and guidance to department personnel.Monitor methods, tooling, and work habits using ERP system reporting and routine shop floor audits.Recognize opportunities for improvement and initiate action.Foster teamwork and promote constructive working relationships through effective communication.Provide in-depth technical training and mentorship to shop personnel on the proper setup and operation of CNC equipment.Interact with the Machine Shop supervisor, Production Team Leaders, and Materials Planners to ensure machining schedules are met on time.Provide feedback on personnel to the Machine Shop supervisor for performance reviews.Ensure compliance with all safety policies.Safely and proficiently set up and operate manual and CNC machines including vertical and horizontal mills, gear shapers, OD grinders, ID grinders, and surface grinders.Machine and deburr parts to meet required specifications.Ensure accuracy, revision level, and validity of paperwork, documentation, and inspection tools prior to starting a job.Maintain accurate daily labor time reporting.Perform part inspections to ensure quality and adherence to blueprint tolerances.Occasionally assist with the fabrication of tools and fixtures.Analyze and resolve complex machining problems, and recommend process and tooling improvements.Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly fashion and perform basic preventative maintenance.Perform other general shop duties or assist other departments as needed.Operate multiple pieces of equipment concurrently when cycle time permits.Essential Skills7-10 years of experience with proficiency in setting up and operating manual machines such as engine lathes, milling machines, gear shapers, honing machines, drill press, ID grinder, surface grinder, tool grinders, band saws, and welding equipment.7-10 years of experience with proficiency in setting up, proving out, and operating CNC turning, milling, grinding, and gear shaping equipment, including making program edits and tool offsets.Thorough knowledge of typical shop inspection equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and CMMs.Advanced knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T), metal cutting principles, tooling, and thread nomenclature.Excellent general math and trigonometry skills.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Strong leadership skills with a commitment to excellence.Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts.Ability to speak, write, and read English and interpret documents such as safety guidelines and procedure manuals.Basic computer skills.High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent is required.2-year technical school degree or completion of an Apprenticeship Program is preferred.Ability to work overtime as needed.BenefitsWe offer a comprehensive benefits package including health care, retirement plans, tuition assistance, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, paid vacations and holidays, and a wellness program. The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00
