**Position Description:**
Supervises and performs technical work in the design, development, maintenance and installation of various types of telecommunications, television production, digital video, cable television, and satellite uplink systems and networks. Directly supervises several employees in the Telecommunications area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Incumbent may be required to operate a vehicle from the TTU/TTUHSC motor pool to perform the job.

**Major/Essential Functions:**
+ Understanding of digital audio systems, digital video systems and associated formats.
+ Setup and maintenance of IT and computer systems; Broadcast Automation systems, server-based video and audio servers.
+ Perform duties including, but not limited to, troubleshoot, maintain, aid in the design and implementation of all broadcast equipment and systems associated with the university's broadcast television and radio stations.
+ Troubleshooting of all stations systems; the removal and replacement of defective components.
+ Setup and maintenance of fiber optic systems; satellite systems; master control equipment, studio equipment and editing systems.
+ Ability to travel to San Angelo and El Paso for repairing or installing radio and television broadcast equipment.

**Occasional Duties:**
+ Responsible for troubleshooting complex broadcast equipment including transmitters with the aid of schematics and available test equipment.
+ Wiring and installation of racked equipment.
+ Exercise leadership skills to supervise master control employees, ability to perform duties of Director of Engineering when required.
+ Maintain radio and TV transmitters including associated equipment and cleaning buildings.

**Required Qualifications:**
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field; with five years experience in field dealing with television, telecommunications, and broadcast systems; or nine years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. May be required to possess a valid Driver's License.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Thorough knowledge of engineering principles that applies to telecommunications and broadcast systems. Ability to utilize mature judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in day-to-day activities. Working knowledge of computer technology applications. Ability to work well with subordinates and peers.
