As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary As a Creative Technologist / Design Engineer at Rivian, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between design and engineering, bringing innovative concepts to life. Your work will directly contribute to the seamless integration of digital and physical experiences in our software-driven vehicles, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automotive design. Responsibilities Collaborate and Prototype: Work alongside designers, engineers, and product managers to rapidly prototype interfaces, animations, and features that align with Rivian’s design principles and enhance the user experience. Translate Designs into Code: Validate UI components, interactions, and transitions in code, ensuring that visual and interaction designs are brought to life consistently across platforms. Enhance Design-to-Engineering Handoff: Improve the workflow between design and engineering by supporting the design system through production, building reusable components, and creating documentation that reduces friction in the design-to-development process. Innovate and Experiment: Use ProtoPie, AR/VR, 3D modeling, or AI-driven design tools to explore new ways of interacting with Rivian’s digital ecosystem inside and outside the vehicle. Technical Problem Solving: Act as a technical consultant for the design team, addressing complex design challenges and ensuring that design integrity is maintained without compromising performance or usability. Scale Design Standards: Contribute to Rivian’s design system by developing components and interactions that are scalable, accessible, and maintainable, setting the foundation for a cohesive and high-quality user experience. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in a Creative Technologist, Design Engineer, or Front-End Developer role, ideally within a commercial digital product, automotive, or tech environment. Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Compose or SwiftUI, and frameworks like React or Vue.js. Experience with prototyping tools (e.g., ProtoPie, Figma, Framer) and an understanding of design systems and component libraries. Strong eye for design, attention to detail, and passion for creating visually compelling and intuitive digital experiences. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and solutions across cross-functional teams. Knowledge of automotive UX or connected vehicle interfaces is a plus.
