Assignments for this position come from the Operations Infrastructure and Support Manager or Maintenance Supervisor. Responsible for directing the work of approximately 10 associates and monitoring/documenting work quality and output. This position requires the use and training of all cleaning equipment, such as, mops, floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, and plungers, in addition to cleaning chemicals and knowledge of best-practiced cleaning methods. May be required to work with hazardous materials and be fit tested for respirator use. Responsible for ensuring material safety data sheets are available for all products used by custodians, interpreting them when required and verifying compliance by custodians with specified requirements. Communication is vital in this position, therefore, the wearing and use of a 2-way radio, use of e-mail, and voicemail are required, and the wearing of a cell phone may also be required.

 

May be required to be certified to operate a forklift or other powered industrial truck. Critical contacts are the customer (the individual whose area is being cleaned or Operations), Maintenance, Loss Prevention and Transportation. The Lead Custodian assists Maintenance management in accomplishing department goals by coordinating the activities of Custodians to achieve the highest possible level of productivity and service. In addition, the Lead Custodian performs all the tasks of a Custodian.

Responsibilities

Core Accountabilities:

Monitor the quality and output of custodiansPerform custodial duties such as, empty trash, dust and clean various surfaces, vacuum floors, operate floor care equipment, and all other tasks assignedAid supervisor in the assignment of daily work and equipment set up, inventory, and aid Supervisor in ordering supplies, and deliver supplies to associatesMaintain work schedules, ensuring completion of department workload. Liaison between Supervisor and other departments, as well as external vendorsAssist in the operations of Universal Waste Room and serve as the back-up contactTrain custodians on the best methods to complete specific cleaning tasks and on the various housekeeping equipment.

Education/Experience Required:

2 years commercial cleaning experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalentGood communication, both verbal and writtenGood leadership skillsAbility to motivate and encourage othersAbility to prioritize tasks while remaining flexibleProblem solving and organizational abilitiesKnowledge of all cleaning methods, products, and equipmentAbility to perform multiple tasks simultaneouslyDetail orientedAble to stand or walk for extended periods of timeAble to bend, stoop and work above the shoulder level.Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.Flexibility to work overtime and/or an adjusted or split schedule as neededKnowledge of Groveport facilitiesWorking knowledge of computers

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position.  As an International Retailer, occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during periods of high volume.  This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
