The pay range is $128,000.00 - $231,000.00

Every scientist on Target’s Data Sciences team can expect to do modeling and data science, develop software/product with highly performant code, elevate Target’s culture, and apply retail domain knowledge.

As a Lead Data Scientist - Recommendations, you will join a data science team responsible for building and maintaining Target’s digital recommendations and personalization. Working closely with engineers, product managers, and other business partners, you will design and implement algorithmic solutions to a variety of recommendation-based problems. You will own every step of the process, including data discovery, feature engineering, model development, validation and testing, and deployment to real-time and batch production environments. In the process, you will adhere to the best practices established by the team, including engineering standards, code organization and review, and an agile working environment. Through collaboration with product managers and business partners you will understand the value of your work in order to best optimize and subsequently advocate for its use. Additionally, you will lead the team by sharing your technical and business acumen, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with other technical contributors across different business areas to promote the general maturation of Target’s scientific capabilities.

About you:

PhD or MS in quantitative disciplines (Science, Tech, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent industry work experienceSignificant experience with Deep Learning (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and traditional Machine Learning including model architecture and optimization to fit system constraintsStrong hands-on programming skills in Python, SQL and SparkGreat at rapid iteration; self-driven and results oriented; able to meet tight timelinesStrong analytical thinking skills with an ability to creatively solve business problems, innovating new approaches where requiredExperience with unit testing, CI/CD, scalable modeling, and engineering best practicesExcellent communication skills. Ability to clearly tell data driven stories through appropriate visualizations, graphs and narrativesStrong team player with ability to collaborate effectively across geographies/time zones

Experience with recommender systemsExperience with vector stores

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
