We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead Director, Design Systems to drive the evolution of the CVS Digital Pulse design system. Pulse supports hundreds of designers, thousands of developers, and 60 million digital customers of our SMS, website and native app experiences. This highly motivated individual will bring a passion for systems thinking and unifying diverse teams around common solutions to shared goals along with proven success leading design systems at enterprise scale.
As a key member of our leadership team, the Design System Director collaborates with product, design, development, and marketing teams to support the delivery of simple, elegant, compelling, and user-centered design solutions that deliver the best health experiences to consumers through our design system.
This role focuses on optimizing an established modern design system for adoption, innovation, and efficiency, partnering with our design system development leader.
ResponsibilitiesLead the evolution and execution of our design system vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with our customers’ evolving needs
Ensure quality of our design system foundations, components, documentation, training, and support
Build strong partnerships with our design, product, development, and marketing teams
Evangelize, promote, and grow adoption of our design system through clear, compelling communication of its benefits
Own, update and communicate our design system roadmap and releases, enabling our customers to know what we’re delivering and when
Support our design system team leaders in defining their backlog, reporting on their progress, and successfully delivering on their commitments
Decisively resolve conflicting priorities while considering diverse points of view
Collaborate with peer leaders in accessibility, content strategy, design operations, experience design, and research to ensure our design system reflects their teams' expertise.
Lead the evolution of our team processes to balance quality, speed, and flexibility
Be a servant leader and coach to team, remove impediments and foster an environment for high-performing team dynamics, continuous flow, and relentless improvement.
Identify and nurture team growth and culture
Hire and retain contract and full-time team members
Establish annual goals and provide ongoing performance feedback to full time staff
Required Qualifications
10 or more years working in a digital design, product, or engineering organization.
5 or more years of experience leading an enterprise design system
Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams, provide holistic design direction to large-scale projects
Ability to interface with customers to understand their needs, identify open questions and decisions required to meet those needs, prioritize work
Ability to communicate well to a wide variety of people including executives, leaders, engineers, architects, designers, marketers, and product managers.
Record of delivering features on time with quality and value
Experience working with accessibility experts
Preferred QualificationsExperience building or supporting design systems in Figma
Familiarity with reusable code created in Angular, React, and Web Components
Familiarity with iOS and Android development
Experience working in regulated environments
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business, tech, design or equivalent combination of education and experience
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
