National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations

Job Purpose

The Lead Engineer will work as part of a team to develop and maintain standards, electrical operating procedures, and material specifications relative to Transmission Line work, to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.  Standards support new and existing transmission lines throughout National Grids US territory which vary in voltage from 69 to 345kV.
 

Key Accountabilities Lead the development of technical content and implementation of National Grid’s Transmission Engineering and Design philosophy, standards, guidelines, and procedures; identify risks and put in place actions to ensure compliance with standards and regulatory requirements. Technical support provided to various departments including Engineering, Design, Operations, and Construction. Review, revise and develop electrical operating procedures (EOPs) for the construction, maintenance or operating the electrical system as scheduled, incident or mandated through regulation by working closely with safety, training, environmental, construction standards, and operational interests. Identifies, investigates, and qualifies approved manufacturers of equipment and monitors their performance, reliability, service, representation, and contribution to the industry. Engage various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in technical discussions to facilitate the development of standards and trainings. Attend and participate in conferences and seminars in relation to new technologies, and industry standards to ensure the transmission standards are up to date on technology, fostering future adaption and expansion. Investigate equipment problems and failures with manufacturers and vendors with recommendations based on investigative results for corrective and preventative actions and or procurement of new equipment and materials. Research and support the adoption of new and innovative technologies for the transmission line business, including support of pilots.  Investigate new tools and equipment which provide enhanced ergonomics, safety, or efficiency. Support all requests for incident analysis (IAs) as team member and complete action items assigned.  Travel as required to support manufacturer qualifications, and conference participation. Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations. Participate in emergency storm response per the assigned storm role as needed. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Civil / Structural or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school. Minimum 6 years’ experience (10 + years preferred) years' relevant and progressive experience in an engineering field, preferably Transmission Engineering. Years of experience will be not only be assessed by progressive experience but level of education and professional certifications will be considered as well.  Experience with transmission design software including: PLS, CADD, PLS POLE, and MFAD Working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current electrical design codes especially National Electric Safety Code (NESC)  Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver Policy. Able to travel throughout service territories and willing to work extended hours when the job requires. That might include, but is not limited to, system emergencies (storm duties). Driving to other company locations, throughout New England and Upstate NY, for various meetings and training

Salary - $145,000 - $170,000
