Locations: Westwood, Massachusetts; Berlin, Connecticut; Manchester, New Hampshire

This is a hybrid role. The first 3 months are full time in the office.

Substation Engineering is responsible for working on substation design, maintenance, and support, optimizing the cost and performance of substation equipment on the transmission/distribution system. Substation Engineering also supports emergent and/or equipment failures, as necessary, to support operations.

Essential Functions: 

Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews. 

Assigns, prioritizes, and directs work performed by at least 5 FTE Engineers across the Tristate territory.

Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system which may include reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.

Responsible for the development, justification, and approval of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects

Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.

Responsible for the development of conceptual engineering designs and the details, as necessary.

Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.

Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.

Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.

Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.

Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.

Responsible for the design of interconnection generation request (Solar, Wind, Fossil, Nuclear, Battery) into existing (brownfield) substations, as well as construction of new (greenfield) substations thru conceptual design

Responsible for upgrading substation equipment to allow the connection of Distributed Generated Resources (DER) to the electrical grid

Assumes the role of the Manager as required.

Expected to assist with storm duty and any other major events.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.

Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.

Familiarity with power related software is preferred.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

Experience:   Minimum of eight (8) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.  Supervisory experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program.  The annual salary range for this position is $137,310.00 to $152,570.00, plus incentive.  Salary is commensurate with your experience.  Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.

Working Conditions:

Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.  Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
