The Hydro Should Cost Engineer will be well versed in Value Engineering tools and would enhance the tool capability (by automation or otherwise) generating optimized inputs/ value engineering ideas etc. to accurately Should cost Hydro Power components and assemblies. The outcomes of this function would be extensively used by Sourcing team to enable deflation during supplier negotiations.
The Hydro Should Cost Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional and business objectives addressing product cost-out and variable cost productivity (VCP) opportunities in all phases of the hydro product's life cycle i.e., NPI, ITO and OTR. This engineer will lead activities across Engineering and Supply Chain organizations to identify, develop, and integrate new cost strategies, design changes, and manufacturing process improvements to meet business cost goals for the Hydro Products.
She or he will also take part of key sourcing negotiation based on supplier cost breakdown evaluation and should cost analysis.
Responsible for leading activities with product lines, engineering, and supply chain to generate business case and execute Product Cost projects
Perform and guide feasibility assessments & technical screening for implementation of Should Cost in Projects.
Leverage internal resources like Value Engineer, Should Cost Part analyst, consultants, and external resources outside of own teams like Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance etc. to arrive at decisions
Effectively communicate project status and needs with Business leaders to ensure completion.

Responsibilities
Delivers should cost models, mainly for Electrical BoP (BTS) products, working closely with Should Cost team and consultants.
Utilizes in-depth technical knowledge, analytical and creative thinking to deliver value
Lead the activities of Part Separation, Stock Preparation, Cutting, bending, Raw Material Calculation and collate consolidated inputs for Manufacturing.
Benchmarking and calibrating should cost with actual offer data for sanity check and validation.
Work with subject matter experts like Value Engineer, AME, ME, Principal Engineer, GCL, Supply Chain Quality when questions arise & build the manufacturing process to establish should cost logic.
Collaborate with should cost, supply chain, AME & Engineering Design teams, discuss any new manufacturing methods that need to be captured for cost, understand cost drivers with new technology concepts.
Help redesign to lowest cost based on elimination of features, change in geometry, dimension, materials etc.
Design To Cost – Implement Optimization between Raw Materials and Manufacturing, design to fit, design to shape etc. by collaborating with design to cost and engineering teams.
Collaborate with engineering teams for adoption of Solid Edge, co-facilitate user trainings, offer tool support to ensure seamless adoption.
Monitor impact of global commodities and predict cost inflation/deflation based on Raw Material & Labor movement. Master is usage of PV formula.
Experience with developing and implementing operational procedures and policies
Work with business to prepare for PMR reviews
Monitor/track CTC spend/release - leading indicators
Support initiative owners to estimate savings associated with their cost-out ideas using internal cost benchmark data
Conduct ad-hoc analyses on estimating headwinds cost implications for Screening of Potential.
Qualifications / Requirements
Engineering Degree in Electrical / Electronics
Experience in Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) products engineering / manufacturing
10 plus years’ experience in Should Costing, ITO/OTR Costing, Cost-Out, supply chain positions (sourcing, manufacturing), Product Management, Design & Engineering.
Understand finance concepts that impact how cost is calculated and reported. Machine rates, Labor rates, Handling rates, Profit & SG&A, Escalation, Unit cost reported etc.
Experience in the Hydro (preferably) or Energy industry.
