What you’ll do:

 The Lead Engineer will work at the intersection of computational design, advanced manufacturing, machine/deep learning, and multidisciplinary optimization. They will serve as a technical and project lead on projects funded by both government and non-government programs in the Center for Materials and Manufacturing. As a project lead, they are responsible for ensuring that programs meet schedule, scope, cost, and achieve technical targets. The role involves developing and implementing algorithms for sensor signal processing to extract meaningful features from raw data, designing and training machine learning models for defect detection in various manufacturing processes, and documenting technical specifications, methodologies, and results. Additionally, they will contribute to technical papers, presentations, and intellectual property generation through authoring or co-authoring disclosures and patents.

 

 The Lead Research Engineer will participate in brainstorming and design sessions, contributing to the technology strategy in the Center of Materials and Manufacturing team. They will support building business unit relationships by presenting ideas and projects, developing compelling value propositions for future programs, and support the acquisition of necessary resources and funding. As a key member of the team, the Lead Engineer is expected to develop as a subject matter expert both internally and externally to Eaton. This includes attending and presenting at technical conferences, seminars, and consortium meetings in relevant industries to network with industry and university peers and stay current in their field. They will serve as a technical lead and project lead in technology development programs, utilizing internal project execution processes such as Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Technical Reviews. The role also involves contributing to government proposal preparation, supporting project execution, and identifying leading external partnerships, outside technologies, and best practices to bring to Eaton. The Lead Engineer will actively participate in external open innovation events with universities and research institutes and contribute to intellectual property generation through authoring or co-authoring disclosures and patents.

 


* This hybrid role requires working on-site at our Southfield, Michigan location 3 days a week. Relocation assistance (within US only) and visa assistance is available for a qualified candidate.  

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

•    MS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or a related field.
•    Experience serving as a technical and project lead on programs.
•    Proven experience in sensor signal processing and Machine/Deep/Graph Learning.
•    2+ years of experience in developing and implementing algorithms for sensor signal processing and designing and training machine learning models.
•    Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.

Preferred Skills:

•  PhD Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or a related field.
•  Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as additive manufacturing and spatial-temporal process monitoring methods
•  Familiarity with Multi-physics Process Simulation, and Multi-objective, Surrogate-based, and ML-assisted Optimization.
•  Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, IoT technologies, real-time data processing is a plus.
•  Experience with contributing to writing government research proposal.
•  Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
•  Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
