Lead Engineer - DevOps

The Lead DevOps Engineer role is a key multi-skilled role responsible for ensuring that applications are designed, developed, deployed and maintained in alignment with infrastructure capabilities and operational considerations.

The Developer Platform Team enables application-development teams to deliver with autonomy by providing self-service platforms. These include: novel automation products, build and deployment templates, setting standards through running Guilds, workshops and documentations, POCs, discoveries and training sessions.

This role is responsible to lead initiatives to build or improve these platforms, including design, technical implementation and teamwork. Requiring collaboration with a large set of stakeholders across Infrastructure, Architecture and Development to ensure the platforms run smoothly and are scalable in meeting growth. This role will work with internal Development and Quality Practice teams to ensure quality gates are built or addressed. They will report to the Engineering Manager of the Developer Platform Team, closely work with Project Managers, Delivery Leads, Architects, Risk CJEs.

It is a hands-on, multi-skilled role that touches application lifecycle management, architecture, technical design, application development, technical testing and infrastructure competencies.

What you’ll do:

Play a pivotal role in optimising technology-related initiatives, Run the daily standups (shared responsibility, depending on the backlog) while ensuring work is tracked in the appropriate Agile Backlog Board (create/maintain User Stories/Requests/Features as required)

Lead technical workshops, internally and across teams mentioned above, to design solutions/troubleshoot issues

Work with Architects and various control owners to ensure our automation solution follow ING secure-by-design standards and other control

Design, build and maintain pipeline templates as well as designing, implementing and maintaining bespoke automation solutions

Engage in mentoring activities/peer-review pull-requests/team channel discussions as well as contributing in ad hoc meetings, requests, escalations from Platform Operations team and consumers of our Asset/Platform products

What we’re looking for

Minimum 7+ years’ experience with software builds and packaging – TFS/Azure Devops, Jenkins, GIT, GITFlow etc.

Fluent in multiple development languages - Microsoft .Net C#, Java, Polymer, HTML5, iOS/Android, T-SQL as well as in multiple scripting languages - PowerShell, Python, Ruby, Perl, Shell scripting, BASH, KSH etc

Significant experience with all relevant ING DevOps technology including Windows/Linux Systems administration, Configuration Management Puppet, Chef and Ansible.

Advanced RDBMS skills – comfortable to design a complex DB design with foreign key relationships, indexing, employs programmable objects, knows how to write efficient SQL

Expert level experience with CI/CD, hands on experience of Container Technologies - Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker for Windows, Azure Container Services, Mesos, Docker Swarm.

Depp knowledge of automated testing, TDD and considerable experience in NUnit, Junit, Selenium and other testing tools
