POSITION TITLE: Lead Engineer - POS
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dynamic Lead Engineer with a strong background in Point of Sale, Java development
and proven leadership skills. The ideal candidate will drive the development and scaling of our platform,
ensuring robust, high-quality software solutions. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional
teams and managing stakeholder relationships to deliver outstanding results.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of Java developers. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements. Strong architecture and design skills with a track record of architecting and delivering distributed, cloud-based microservices, event-driven architectures and RESTful API’s. Strong architecture, design and coding skills to build and integrate software with stores hardware peripherals like scanner, printer, etc. In depth knowledge of wired and wireless / bluetooth architecture, network topology. Develop and maintain scalable applications using Java with Spring Boot. Conduct code reviews, identify areas for improvement, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices. Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Bamboo and Bitbucket. Implement and oversee code quality analysis using SonarQube. Lead API development and integration processes for seamless service functionality. Conduct comprehensive testing, including TDD approaches for unit and contract testing. Utilize Google Cloud services (e.g., Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL) and transactional databases effectively. Monitor application performance using tools like Grafana and Newrelic. Troubleshoot and resolve production issues swiftly and effectively. Proactively evaluate and adopt new technologies and tools to improve the system’s performance, reliability and scalability. Ability to guide the engineers, quickly troubleshoot, determine root cause and fix issues in a 24/7 on-call environment.
Vision and Strategy:
Build and articulate a clear vision for the platform's future, aligning with business goals. Collaborate with leadership to track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs). Facilitate Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) and Correction of Errors (COEs), applying learnings to enhance system architecture and design.
Stakeholder and Team Management:
Engage with multiple internal teams and external partners, managing relationships and integrating technology solutions. Extensive experience working with Point of Sale platforms. Prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and make strategic decisions on work distribution and resource allocation. Lead and mentor a team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation. Operations experience managing, deploying and maintaining enterprise large scale solutions and drive operational excellence across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 9 years of experience in Java development, Postgres, CloudSQL or equivalent DB technologies with substantial experience in leading engineering projects. Minimum of 6 years of experience in cloud based Point of Sale implementation including hardware integration. Demonstrated ability in building and leading technical teams, with or without direct reports. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a developer-centric, startup-like environment.
Nice to Have Experience:
Experience in building other Store applications like replenishment, store inventory management, RFID integration, Buy online ship from store, Buy online pickup from store, etc. Experience in building a unified backend commerce platform and UI framework for stores and ecommerce. 2+ years of experience in Machine Learning and/or Data Intelligence and leveraging these to build end customer experiences.

Actual starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to relevant experience and location.
