Lead Environmental Consultant

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Environmental Consultant. This role supports environmental risk management for commercial real estate lending.


In this role, you will:

Determine tasks, work scope and due diligence level based on the profile of the projectApprove third party consultant reports for adequacy and conformance to industry standards and explain complex remediation methods or concepts to ensure informed decisions are made prior to loan approvalsMake decisions in technical data to identify potential environmental risks and regulatory complianceCollaborate and consult with external vendors and relationship managers to resolve issues and achieve deliverablesAssist a team in training and guidance of new hiresReview of environmental investigations of complex and visual properties, including Risk Class 1, 2 or 3 sitesDetermines tasks, work scope and due diligence level based on the profile of the projectDetermines and approves Phase 2 protocol and scope of work including soil testing, water testing ground water testing and remediation solutionsInterprets scientific and technical information and advises lending officers regarding environmental and reputational risk impacts that may affect the quality and value of propertyExplains complex remediation methods and concepts to ensure informed decisions are made prior to loan approvalsIdentifies contingencies that must clear before loan closing or foreclosureDevelops complex project risk profile analysis and recommends appropriate risk mitigation approachesAssesses reputational riskReviews technical data to identify potential environmental risks and regulatory compliance, analyzes reports in light of WF's risk toleranceResponsible for external vendor selection based on project characteristicsMay assist in the development of policies and procedures

Work locations: Summit, New Jersey, Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Charlotte, North Carolina.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of construction or environmental engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, educationAmerican Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) qualifications in line with E1527 or E2018


Desired Qualifications:

BS Degree (Environmental/Engineering/Geology) with at least 5 years of progressive experience and responsibilities in the fields of environmental risk management or environmental consultingKnowledge and understanding of environmental risk management lending issuesStrong knowledge and understanding of ASTM E1527-13 and -21 standards and US Small Business Administration Standard Operating Procedure (SOP 50 10 7)Demonstrated ability to review and evaluate Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II ESAs, remedial investigation, remedial action plans, and other limited-scope environmental due diligence reportsDemonstrated ability to review and evaluate complex environmental issues, including quantification of remedial costs and schedules, and determining scope of work for Phase II investigations to assess soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and vapor intrusion issuesProven ability in communicating policy and environmental issues with lending representativesKnowledge and understanding of local/regional environmental regulations and regulatory agenciesExperience supporting GSE- Related projects is desired including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUDDemonstrated ability to document and communicate complex review findings in actionable business termsAbility to meet deadlinesExceptional organization skillsAbility to work effectively as part of a team environmentStrong attention to detail and ability to work accuratelyCustomer service focus with experience actively listening, eliciting information, comprehending customer issues/needs, and recommending solutionsExcellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsSelf-motivated with a high level of initiative and accountabilityAbility to work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environmentAdvanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) skills

Job Expectations:

Ability to travel up to 10% of the time

Pay Range
 

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.

$84,000.00 - $179,200.00
