Operates specialized firefighting vehicles (hazardous materials trucks) and associated equipment. Assures crew members keep equipment and apparatus in good working order. Directs rescue of personnel that involves the proper procedures for detection, medical triage, and treatment and decontamination. Performs functions required to execute difficult and hazardous firefighting and rescue operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Serving as a fully trained member of a firefighting crew engaged in the protection of life and property; 2. Performing maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, and facilities; 3. Providing emergency medical response to illness or injury; and 4. Responding to the presence or potential releases of hazardous materials for the purpose of stopping or controlling the release. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). In addition to above, to be eligible for this position you must possess and maintain the following license and certifications certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board): Fire Officer I Fire Instructor I Fire Inspector I HAZMAT Technician Driver Operator -Pumper National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician Basic (NREMT-B) To remain in the position, you must obtain and maintain the following certification certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) within 24 months of employment: Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply Driver Operator Aerial Fire Inspector II Fire Officer II Hazmat Incident Commander Incident Safety Officer Public and Life Safety Educator Plans Examiner Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
