Purpose

Provide production and support for food preparation, which includes but is not limited to cooking, stocking, rotating, serving, and maintaining products within University Housing and Dining. Assist the supervisor team with the training of employees and ensure all procedures are done correctly.

Responsibilities

Assist the supervisor in coordinating the production of all food preparation activities. Support supervisors in the training of staff. Lead and coach staff in daily operations. Maintain current knowledge of all areas of responsibility. Communicate with the leadership team on recommendations to adjust forecast needs daily for perishable products.

Set up, stock, clean and replenish serving area before/during service. Break down and clean all serving areas, workstations and equipment after service. Ensure detailed cleaning tasks are completed throughout the shift. Conduct inventory of items in dry storage areas, coolers, freezers, and beverage stations. 

Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines. Ensure proper labeling and storage of products. Maintain temperature logs and waste forms as required throughout shift and ensure food is cooked and maintains appropriate temperature throughout service. Avoid cross contamination and
actively monitor food quality.

Greet and provide internal and external customers with excellent customer service. Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, supervisory staff, and/or customers. Assist in short-order cooking, food preparation, and serving in work area. Receive, respond, and follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisors, co-workers, and customers.

Adhere to written and oral University and UHD policies such as time and attendance and UHD / UT trainings and compliance. Complete and maintain required food safety training, including Texas Food Handler Safety. Follow work safety guidelines and utilize proper PPE as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Two years of experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.

Experience training or leading staff in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional food facility.

Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment. 

Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Culinary Degree.

Three or more years of experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.

One or more years of experience training or leading staff in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional food facility.

Customer service experience in a high-volume food service operation.

Experience following recipes.

Basic computer skills. 

Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision.

Salary Range

$41,600+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment.

Workdays, hours, and area may vary based on the needs of the unit and University Housing and Dining (UHD).
