Lead Formulation Chemist, Adhesives & Thermal Management

Join our Adhesives & Sealants Formulation Group and be at the forefront of innovation in electric vehicle (EV) technology and sustainability. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate with chemists, engineers, and technicians to develop next-generation adhesives and sealants that are integral to the future of automotive technology. As a Lead Formulation Chemist, you’ll oversee both day-to-day project execution and strategic deliverables within the innovation pipeline. You will mentor technical team members, manage project timelines, and effectively communicate results to stakeholders. A strong commitment to safety and adherence to safe operating procedures is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Lead R&D Efforts: Plan, direct, and execute research initiatives focused on the development of novel adhesives and sealants.
Project Advancement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research, development, manufacturing, and commercial teams, to move projects forward.
Mentorship: Provide guidance to team members on experimental design, ensuring research efforts address key technical questions.
Innovation: Generate and implement practical, innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
Intellectual Property (IP) Management: Proactively advance IP capture of new technologies. Collaborate with legal teams and cross-business units to draft patents and develop strategies to protect key discoveries.
Global Collaboration: Work closely with global R&D labs in Pennsylvania, France, and China to develop and scale technologies across multiple regions.
Project & People Management: Provide functional management for specific projects and team members. Collaborate with department leadership on talent assessment and development.
Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate project progress and key results to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business goals.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Engineering, or Materials Science, with 2-5 years of industry experience.
Proven track record of technical success, including commercialization and collaboration with business partners.
Strong communicator with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated expertise in patent development and intellectual property management.
Proven leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide technical teams and foster talent development.
Ability to work in fast-paced environments, manage multiple projects, and meet critical deadlines.
Experience in formulation, mechanical testing, or product scale-up, particularly in the adhesives industry or related fields is a plus.
