Your OpportunityOur Power team is looking to fill the role of a Lead Grid Modernization Studies Engineer. Reporting to the Studies Engineering Lead, this position offers you an exciting opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the grid modernization initiatives, studies, detailed electrical design, and project management in the power sector.
The successful candidate will have experience performing distribution grid level analysis and studies for distribution utilities and be ready to mentor EITs in this area. In addition, the successful candidate may find themselves working in a wide range of projects for distribution utilities, renewable energy producers, and other power sector stakeholders in the areas of grid modernization and smart grid development. The candidate should have a deep understanding of power system analysis and the application of studies for both electric utilities and renewable energy facilities.
Your Key Responsibilities Providing strategic and thought leadership in grid studies and initiatives. Executing and leading advanced system modelling using CYME software and other power system modelling software. Executing and solving challenging problems related to system planning and grid modernization. Supporting the delivery of other Stantec service offerings including our Advisory and Technology teams. Mentoring and educating EITs Prepare reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements Preparation of power system study and technical components of grid modernization reports Interpret and incorporate vendor information into technical deliverables Perform QA/QC of electrical engineering studies, design packages, and reports Provide regular progress updates related to deliverables on projects Support commissioning and field engineering projects Development of project estimates and cost reporting. Interfacing directly with clients and directing work for a teamYour Capabilities and Credentials Significant experience and technical knowledge in electric utility distribution systems, including distribution planning, systems operations, project implementation, load forecasting, and asset management. Proficient in the use of various CYME modules (CYMDIST, ICA, EPRI DRIVE, etc.), Synergi, and other power system modelling software. Strong safety mindset Able to demonstrate solid technical writing and verbally communicate complex concepts in a clear, concise manner. Understanding of Power System analysis fundamentals Ability to work effectively in a team environment and develop strong client relationships Strong organization skills and ability to manage multiple tasks Ability to manage and deliver technical and engineering deliverables as per project schedule and within budget Ability to work closely with technical and non-technical staff to meet with project timelines for deliverables Ability to understand client specific requirements (standards & specifications) and applicable codes & regulations for preparing technical work packages Well developed writing skills, able to communicate complex technical concepts in emails and reports Experience in developing drawing packages, specifications and construction work packages Experience developing relay settings and capturing setting calculations in a clear and concise report is considered an asset Experience with some or all of the following technologies would be considered an asset: Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0, Distribution Automation (DA), Fault Location, Isolation, & Service Restoration (FLISR), and Demand Response Management Systems (DRMS). Experience conducting advanced studies and grid modernization projects within a utility environment would be considered an asset. Analysis capabilities with one or more of the following: R, Matlab, VBA, SAS, or Python would be considered an asset. Experience in the ability to prepare and defend responses for regulatory related matters would be an asset. Experience in developing emerging technology load forecasts would be an asset. Travel may be required but is not anticipated to be more often than 5 days per month Education and Experience Bachelor Electrical Engineering or with 5 or more years experience Professional Engineering designation is a requirement

At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
