Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Lab Lead Support Services functions as department lead to coordinate daily operations of assigned areas in terms of staffing and workflow. The Lab Lead obtains specimens, assists with processes for testing and referral testing, performs waived and select testing, and assists with daily scheduling, data collection inventory, and troubleshooting sample and customer issues.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Essential Job Functions

•             Coordinates workflow related to all aspects of laboratory support services to include processing, phlebotomy, specimen transport, supply distribution, patient registration, and customer service.

•             Performs all duties of phlebotomists and processors as needed.

•             Monitors Lab Information System (LIS) reports and logs for compliance to assure pre-analytical processes are of highest quality.

•             Assists leadership with department needs.

•             Manages quality assurance documentation of personnel as needed.

•             Provides oversight for scheduling and timekeeping.

•             Implements policies and procedures as relates to specific area.

•             Oversees training and orientation of personnel.

•             Maintains standards of accreditation for The Joint Commission (TJC) and The College of American Pathologists (CAP) for specific area.

Licensing/Certification

Phlebotomy Certification (required if lead of phlebotomy)

Education

High School/GED (required)

Associates, Allied Health Sciences, Phlebotomy with additional coursework (preferred)

Work Experience

Previous experience in a laboratory setting (required)

Previous experience in leadership position in customer service environment (required)

3 years phlebotomy experience with EKG experience (required if lead of phlebotomy)
