Job SummaryWe are currently seeking a Lead Machine Learning Scientist. This position is located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Battelle’s Aviation Security Division provides research development test and evaluation services to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL). The qualified candidate for this position will lead TSL Developmental Test & Evaluation (DT&E) projects, Internal Research and Development (IRaD) projects, and other company divisions with machine learning and artificial intelligence expertise.
The successful candidate will perform moderately complex statistical design, modeling and analysis. Performs complex machine learning methods. Determines appropriate methods, fills in technical details, identifies problems and implements solutions. Oversees others in extracting data from existing databases or literature and preparing data for statistical machine learning analysis.
Prepares, analyzes and interprets complex data using statistical modeling, machine learning or advanced algorithms. Develops complete or partial analytical pipelines or algorithms that go from raw data to final products for the end user using appropriate programming languages. The tasks may vary from descriptions or statistics to advanced insights on complex and heterogenous data streams.
Responsibilities Analyzes and interprets data collected and writes various reports or sections of reports/presentations. Develops software tools using statistical/biostatistical/machine learning capabilities.Conducts small technical projects or phases of technical projects. May provide technical direction to and coordinate the efforts of support staff in the performance of assigned projects within time and budget constraintsAssists with proposal efforts as needed. Writes technical approach contributions and contributes to discussion of level of effort required for components of work.Builds relationships with internal and external clients and presents research results. Communicates with client about the schedule and quality of deliverables. May present research results to clients and in public forums.Contributes to IR&D studies.Works on projects involving innovative methods or applications. Proposes small IR&D studies.Supports business development efforts led by others and secures follow-on work. May assist in marketingMay participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, or company visibility through publications.May present poster or platform in scientific conferences or assist in peer review panelsOversees, mentors and trains lower-level staff in extracting and preparing data for statistical/biostatistical analysis and modeling.Capable of traveling at least 25% domestically. Key Qualifications Successful completion of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, data science, math, physics or related analytical field from an accredited college or universityMust have related experience: 5 or more years with a BS/BA, 2 or more years with an MS/MA, or a PhD with laboratory experience.Candidates should have experience in solving problems in computer vision related to object detection, anomaly detection, etc. Background in python and the data science stack (numpy, scikit-learn, etc), and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc. Candidate should have strong oral and written communication skills.Candidate should be highly motivated and self-starter with a strong desire to learn.Sole US Citizenship with eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and to obtain both TSA and DHS Suitability.Capable of traveling at least 25% domestically. Preferred Qualifications Must have related experience: 12 or more years with a BS/BA, 6 or more years with an MS/MA, or a PhD with laboratory experience.Background in millimeter wave (MMW), X-ray or spectroscopic imaging methods.Familiarity with deep learning counter factuals, adversarial attacks, explainability and intrepretability methodsExperience with computer vision for single images, multi-view, video and volumetric data Familiarity with data synthesis using deep learning methodsImage analysis using ImageJ and OpenCVExperience in any of the following: Docker, GitExperience in user interface design and implementationPrior laboratory testing experiencePrior experience working for TSA or DHSDoD Secret security clearance
