Lead Maintainer (BE)

From endlessly recyclable aluminum cans, and cups, to aerosol bottles, our goal is to contribute to a better community, society, and world.** **Primary purpose of the position:** Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant's production goals, overall business plans and objectivesas directed. _The Rome Beverage plant follows a rotating swing shift schedule - 3 days on, 3 days off - 6:00a/p-6:00p/a. The scheduled roatates from days to nights every 4 weeks._ **Essential Responsible Areas:** 1. Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. 2. Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system. 3. Performs duties as required to insure compliance with the plant's quality standards. 4. Leads personnel in the on-floor efforts for the operation and maintenance of production equipment. 5. Performs various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the production equipment to meet customer specifications. 6. Evaluates and determines specific areas to be addressed during routine maintenance scheduled downtimes. 7. Disassembles, overhauls, and rebuilds production equipment. 8. Performs troubleshooting on production equipment as required. 9. Performs preventative maintenance on production equipment as required. 10. Performs on-the-job training and development of assigned personnel. 11. Conducts inspection of in-process materials and in-process and finished product. 12. Responsible for replenishing supplies, materials, parts, and tooling required for assigned area. 13. Relieves operators, adjusters, and maintainers for breaks. 14. Performs record keeping duties as required under the direction of management. 15. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from the computer. 16. Communicates pertinent information to next shift. 17. Supplies and maintains required hand tools. 18. Performs clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties. 19. Reviews SOPs and control plans relevant to their area on a regular basis. 20. Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility. 21. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company. Includes ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts. 22. Required to work assigned schedule or 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights, Monday through Sunday, working hours may vary as specified by management. Incumbent must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by management. 23. Communicates with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities. 24. Understands and responds effectively to EC directions during emergencies by being familiar with emergency procedures, equipment, and systems, as necessary. Implements contingency plan to the level required by the position. 25. Understands, completes, and maintains environmental documentation for which the individual is trained, or as directed by the EC, EFP, or EM (i.e., inspections, labeling, record keeping, maintenance of equipment, etc.). Reports to the EC, EFP, or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities. 26. Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation as directed during training or by the EC, EFP/EM. Understands and practices proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes. 27. Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes. **Position Requirement & competencies:** **Professional & Education Qualification** High School Diploma or education equivalent required. Job-related experience for 3 years minimum with demonstrated leadership experience preferred. **Skills** Ability to apply independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard can and end making techniques, procedures, and criteria. Must be able to handle sensitive related and proprietary information in a confidential manner. Performs such individual assignments as management may direct. Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Corporation manuals. Maintains awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions. Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment. Ability to identify product defects. Ability to effectively train personnel. Ability to effectively lead personnel. Ability to use hand and power tools. Ability to interact with customers, suppliers or vendors. Ability to operate a forklift and aerolift, if required. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to meet deadlines and to concentrate and pay attention to detail. Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time. Ability to operate and functionally use a computer. Must maintain professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize. **Knowledge** Working knowledge of the following areas: nomenclature of all assigned equipment and products, and plant quality standards. Possesses an interest in and an aptitude for mechanics. **Other Requirements** Works in a manufacturing environment. This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc. Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
