Summary The Portland, OR VA Medical Center is looking to fill a Lead Medical Support Assistant position in the Inpatient & Emergency Services Division. Staff Development coordination is the role's primary focus, which includes content development and facilitating IESD MSA training classes every month. The Lead MSA solicits suggestions to be discussed in the monthly MSA meetings & runs monthly MSA meetings. The Lead MSA will bring any action items to the MSA's supervisor. Below is the Lead MSA performance level. At this level the Lead MSA provides a full range of duties. Assignment at this level include but are not limited to: Conducts scheduling audits & provides feedback to the MSA's supervisor. Cross train all MSA's to work with all areas of the medical center to ensure a more effective floating team to cover all needed areas. Maintain the online MSA manual to assist MSAs ability to access the most update information. Responsible for keeping all the policies and procedures up to date. Work with IESD Leadership to analyze NDNQI measurement reports which is used to monitor our progress so we can perform at or above national benchmarks. Complete quality review analysis of advanced directive screening data, HIPPA opt out screening data, completion of all PCP appointments, timing of discharges, Length of Stay (LOS} data, ADT data and consult completion. Prepare reports based on QC chart audits, Help to oversee the administrative operational system processes that includes tracking of repair needs of division, unit-based office equipment, support the office supply ordering process, track EWOs and work on any other customer service-related duty in an MSA liaison capacity. Provide support services for the Patient Effects Coordinators. Support the PVAMC decedent affairs inventory of effects process. Act as an alternative timekeeper within IESD. o Oversee the tracking for Patient Funds. Act as a computer TAC o Assist new staff with menu key set up and completes audits of access keys for staff. Participate as a member of the medical records committee (MRC) and Health Information Management team (HIMs}. Assist with policy development and planning for new and revised MCMs. Assist with managing IESD Patient Transportation requests/use by keeping track for all travel data including tracking of errors either by the MSA, AOD, or Travel. Work Schedule: Variable weekends and holidays, potential tours will be discussed during interviews. Compressed/Flexible: May be available. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j Specialized Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level (1) collaborating with medical clinicians across multiple disciplines, scheduling interdisciplinary appointments, and possessing an advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery and/or care in the community. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below: 1. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. 2. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient care systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. 3. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities to meet deadlines. 4. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desires effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. 5. Ability to provide staff development and training. 6. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact if incomplete work across multiple clinics.
