Job Summary/Overall Objectives
Responsible for the overall daily operation of the MRI Department. Will oversee the activities of the staff MRI technologist; Assist with annual appraisals on MRI employees/orient new employees.
Essential Job Functions
Assists in developing necessary forms, procedures, and protocols. Consults with radiologist to determine proper imaging protocol. Consults with department leadership to determine proper procedure/guidelines. Develops and implements new forms as needed for operations. Provides for the safety of patients, other hospital employees, and visitors who may be in the MRI area. Oversees QC/preventative maintenance on equipment. Maintains records on equipment calibration/service. Reports any necessary equipment malfunction to service provider. Evaluates new products/equipment Assists management in determining the value of new products/equipment to meet the department's needs. Reviews new products/equipment based on cost effectiveness. Makes recommendations for capital purchase of new equipment to department manager. Maintains or changes patient/Technologist schedule to provide accessibility and high-quality services. Provides proper scheduling for procedures. Prepares technologists' schedule. Maintains department statistics and records required by federal, state, and local agencies. Assists in ACR accreditation. Assist in JCAHO and/or DOH inspections. Assists department manager in the development of performance improvement initiatives. Develops cost-saving initiatives. Develops improved patient care initiatives. Assists manager in all aspects of the budget process. Manages costs within departmental guidelines and budgetary constraints. Oversees staff training, hiring, and education. Oversees the activities and assists with annual performance appraisals on MRI staff. Assists with interviews for MRI positions. Orients new employees to department. Maintains continuing education for staff. Performs all job duties of staff MRI technologist included on job description of MRI staff technologist. Conducts periodic staff meetings. Attends lead/department meetings. Other duties as assigned.
Competency and Experience (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Required Qualifications/Experience
Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology recognized by ARRT. Minimum three (3) years of MRI experience Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice. Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Bachelor’s Degree Experience in Healthcare setting.
License, Certification & Clearances
Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program. Act 33 with renewal Act 34 with renewal Act 73 FBI Clearance Current MRI registry with ARRTSupervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between System locations.
