The opportunity

Caterpillar has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Operator who want to be challenged and are interested in progressing with the company. In this role, you will be responsible for managing, directing and assigning work to a team of operators.

This role will allow you to develop your communication and planning and organizing skills and will require good decision making abilities. You will interact with hourly and salaried employees at your facility to provide essential production support for operations activity, and will receive guidance from your Section Manager. Many opportunities exist for those Lead Operators who are keen to progress in the production/engineering environment and especially into higher level leadership positions.

What you will do:

Directs and assigns work to team members while performing the same work on occasion

Instructs and trains new team members in methods of job performance to enhance quality and efficiency

Compliance with safety standards

Compliance with 5S programme and other business improvement initiatives

Displays behaviour and conduct fitting with our Values in Action

Trains employees if and when required

Responsibility for quality of work performed by team

Compliance with quality standards

Responsibility for quantity of work performed by team

Assists in planning work flow and makes suggestions for more efficient through put

Assists management in ordering materials for production line

Assumes limited responsibility for managing overtime

Achieve targets for Health and Safety, quality, attendance, training etc

Ensure metrics and systems are updated accurately

Problem resolution and liaising with departments for resolution

Work with Manufacturing Engineers to improve processes within the production area

Any other appropriate duties

What you have:

The ability to follow and comprehend verbal, specific and detailed procedures and work instructions as well as difficult arithmetic calculations in order to perform the duties described above

Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead production personnel and to liaise with production management, engineering and quality inspectors

Physical ability to fulfil the requirements of the job

Flexibility to work a variety of shift patterns and a reasonable amount of overtime

Top candidates will have:

Leadership experience

Previous experience working in lean environment

Working knowledge of various jobs in the assigned area

Good level of computer literacy

Strong customer focus

Attention to detail to meet quality standards

Ability to prioritize and organize sequence of work.
