Position Summary
Pharmacy technician level IV is a certified pharmacy technician position who supports pharmacy services by assembling and participating in the distribution of medications. A pharmacy technician level IV will need certification by a nationally recognized certification board. This position will assist the department’s professional staff, under direct supervision, in a numerous aspects of ordering, receiving, storage, distribution, and monitoring medication use. This position may either be dedicated to the distribution of controlled substances, nationally certified in sterile compounding, or a pharmacy lead technician.
󠇡 Lead Pharmacy Technician
Possesses advanced knowledge of the technical operations of virtually all aspects of pharmacy services.
· As an experienced pharmacy technician, works alongside other technicians, coaching mentoring, assisting and/or training them in proper performance of their duties.
· Oversees the pharmacy technicians and effectively addresses issues that arise.
· Oversees the pharmacy technician workflow including reallocating staff based on staffing needs.
· Ensures timeliness of all medication deliveries and cabinet restocks.
· Oversees inventory management processes including: receiving wholesaler order, inventory returns, and restocking automation / medication shelves.
· Places wholesaler order in the absence of the pharmacy buyer.
· Conducts and documents assigned portions of orientation and annual training and competency assessments.
· Retrains staff members who do not satisfy the expectations of annual competencies or who demonstrate a deficiency in a specific technical still set.
· Receives feedback from pharmacy staff and addresses issues immediately and appropriately. Issues that cannot be resolved immediately, and issues requiring follow-up action, will be discussed with a pharmacy manager.
· Trouble shoots automation issues in the absence of a clinical informatics technician or pharmacist
Minimum Education and Training
· Registration with Kentucky Board of Pharmacy (KY hospitals) within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered, you must have registration upon hire.
· Registration with Indiana Board of Pharmacy (IN hospitals) within 30 days of hire date if you are a new registrant. If previously registered, you must have registration upon hire.
· Certified in sterile compounding (Sterile Compounding Preparation Technician only).
· Certified in controlled substances diversion prevention preferred (Certified Controlled Substances Technician only).
· Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred.
At least 2 years hospital pharmacy experience required (Lead Pharmacy Technician only).
