Summary:
The Lead Pharmacy Tech assists in development of guidelines, policies and procedures for the Department of Pharmacy Services. Assists with departmental orientation of new pharmacy technicians. Provides support for special projects and assignments. Assists with coordinating and managing the activities of the sterile products area to maintain compliance with USP 797 and other state and federal rules and regulations. Assists with the training of new pharmacy personnel to prepare sterile products. Coordinates technician schedules. Coordinates annual IV validation for the Pharmacy Department . The Lead Pharmacy Technician assists and works under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist to fulfill department functions. This includes filling medication orders, making IV solutions, transporting medications and filling stock orders.

Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required or may assist a registered pharmacist for 60 days upon submission of an application or submission for reinstatement not due to disciplinary action. A copy of the application must be maintained by the applicant at the site of employment during and until notice of registration or disqualification is received by the applicant and must be readily retrievable for reviewing by the Drug Compliance Investigator.Pharmacy Technician certification preferred and if does not have certification, must obtain within 1 year of hire.
Responsibilities:
Assist with maintaining records such as unit inspections, temperature logs, laminar flow hood cleaning, and IV room quality assurance testing.Assists pharmacists in all duties.Assists with checking stock medications for outdatesFills medication orders for inpatients and outpatients under a pharmacist's supervision.Good communication skills both written and verbal.Preparation of IV additive solutions (IVPB's, syringes, large volume IV solutions, hyperalimentation solutions).Reorders medications from wholesaler or other provider to ensure adequate inventory.Responsible for creating and maintaining the pharmacy technician work schedules.Responsible for delivery of chemotherapy.Responsible for filling AcuDose Dispensing Cabinets.Responsible for repacking medications in unit dose packaging as needed.Returns credited meds back into inventory.
