The Lead Pharmacy Technologist assists pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. The Lead Pharmacy Technologist provides training and daily supervision of the technical staff in the area of responsibility and provides input to adjust schedules based upon absences, emergency staffing, and vacancies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs the job functions and duties of Senior Pharmacy Technologist and Pharmacy Technologist. Oversees and maintains the daily operational integrity and workflow of an assigned area of responsibility. Assists with scheduling of technical staff and provides input to adjust schedules based upon absences, emergency staffing, and vacancies. Orients, trains, and provides functional guidance to designated pharmacy technologists and other support staff. Ensures they have the resources and training necessary to perform their jobs effectively. Serves as a communication liaison with pharmacy leadership, pharmacists, and technologists. Continually reviews and analyzes operations recommending and implementing operational improvements, new technologies, etc. that increase the efficiency and improve the level of service provided in collaboration with pharmacy leadership. Assists with the recruitment, interviews, retention, performance evaluation, and competency assessment of pharmacy technologists and other support staff in collaboration with pharmacy leadership. Participates in the development of tools and standards to establish and improve competency levels of the pharmacy technologists, students, and support staff. Monitors and ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Participates in continuous quality assurance and performance improvement activities and medication safety initiatives. Participates or leads various problem-solving and troubleshooting activities, committees, task forces, and performance improvement teams as assigned. Implements and coordinates emergency downtime procedures. Assists with disaster preparedness and recovery efforts. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of all technologist roles Must have current knowledge of safety regulations and experience in the implementation of new policies and procedures. Proficient knowledge of operating system software, desktop applications such as excel, power point, etc., interfaces, and pharmacy information system applications as they relate to the automated dispensing machines. Ability to manage data in spreadsheets, run an effective meeting, give effective feedback, and utilize project management techniques. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and problem solve. Excellent interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing. Must be highly organized and able to adapt to changing demands and priorities. Ability to exercise sound judgment, work well under pressure, take initiative, and be flexible and cooperative. Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs.WORK SCHEDULE:
The position will follow a day shift schedule, the current hours are 11:00AM to 7:30PM, however, must be flexible as the hours may vary as needed, including occasional weekend availability to fill in when required.
