Lead Phlebotomist
Position Standards Actively seeking or holding current registration by the College of American Pathologists as a PBT, or the equivalent, is desired. Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire. Position Physical Requirements Anything listed here requires a pre-placement physical by Employee Health to determine if the employee is capable of meeting the requirements. Physical Activity: Upper Extremity: Push/Pull/Lift/Carry: PART TWO: Performance Expectations - Lead Role Contributes to the short and long term departmental planning and strategy. Oversee training within his/her area of expertise in the department, which includes: identifying needs, developing training, providing/facilitating training, track training, and validating the effectiveness of the training. Provides ongoing and annual input on staff performance to the leadership of the department. Participates in the Quality Assurance Program for his/her area of expertise in the department. Assists in the review, development and revisions of policies and procedures for his/her area of the department. Position Objective Provide expertise in assigned area of responsibility by: 1) keeping current with the latest technology, trends and best practice; 2) providing guidance, tracking and on-going support for employee training, and; 3) validating staff competency. To perform venipunctures, process laboratory requisitions and orders, answer the telephone, take messages, maintain files, records, inventory; maintain and organize adequate laboratory supplies, and perform other related duties as assigned. PART THREE: Performance Expectations - Functional Obtain blood samples and prepare them for analysis and distribution. Greet patients and answer the telephone. Perform clerical duties associated with inpatient/ER specimen processing, including but not limited to managing requests from
inpatient/ER units to ensure phlebotomy is performed in a timely fashion, retrieve samples when needed, and recieve Order Entry
requests into the LIS. Perform clerical duties associated with outpatient phlebotomy including but not limited to entering requisitions into the LIS and following up on requisition problems. . Process specimens coming to the laboratory from outside offices. This includes, but it not limited to registering patients, ordering tests, scanning requisitions, and logging specimens when needed. Perform laboratory requisition clerical and registration checks. Report any unresolved problems to the Laboratory Manager. Perform other related special tasks as assigned. Participate in ordering of lab supplies to assure unencumbered functioning of the laboratory. Attend Laboratory meetings or sign off on minutes if unable to attend.
