Lead Phlebotomist
Overview Starting pay for this position is $18.07/hour POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Phlebotomist monitors the productivity of the department and makes recommendations to the leader as to appropriate modifications and workflow for staffing levels. Directs staff's work assignments. May work directly with patient care units and/or physician’s offices to clarify laboratory requisition or to inform as to the need to obtain a correctly collected specimen. Performs advanced phlebotomist activities including but not limited to: recollection of specimens due to difficult draws, assist with difficult draws in the ICU and other units as needed, blood alcohol specimen collections, education and demonstration of retrieval of difficult draws, assisting the department educator in demonstrating techniques for advanced blood specimen retrieval, and may require travel to nursing homes to perform phlebotomy duties. May also assist with standard phlebotomy duties as needed. In doing so, obtains needed supplies, verifies patient identification, prepares skin sites, and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques. Labels specimens and transports same to laboratory for analysis. Performs clerical and/or computer duties associated with the laboratory. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School/GED Experience: 1 year phlebotomist experience in a hospital or large clinic. Other skills/knowledge: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: License/Certifications: Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT) Experience: Associate or bachelor's degree in a science related area OSF HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer
