Lead Pipeline Operator

Position Description

Coordinate and complete pipeline operations and maintenance tasks and projects in support of terminal and pipeline. You will be responsible for answering one-calls, locating the pipeline, maintaining the right of way, responding for emergencies, meeting with contractors, state and federal inspectors, and filling out paperwork in compliance with Kinder Morgan policy and PHMSA regulations.

Position Requirements

• Protect underground utilities from damage during projects involving excavations.
• Use a locator to locate and mark all utilities required by the company, witness 3rd party crossings, document, update one-call ticket status, and file all required paperwork.
• Must be a self-starter and be able to perform work with little supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet required deadlines.
• Perform pipeline right of way inspections, leak detection surveys, and inspections per Company procedures.
• Coordinate local/state Damage Prevention activities. Provide oversight and inspection to ensure asset protection and compliance with company procedures of excavation activities near pipeline facilities.
• Responsible for inspection of projects primarily relating to excavation near pipeline facilities.
• Act as Company representative during construction activities, report progress to Operations and Project Manager and ensure proper reporting and compliance with Safety and Environmental policies.
• Participates in emergency response exercises, actively involved in LEPC committees, and be the subject matter expert in pipeline related emergencies
• Must be proficient and detailed oriented to accurately process State One-Call locate requests from excavators and contractors using company software.
• Represent the Company during contacts with landowners/tenants, public officials, emergency officials, general public and local organizations (One-Call, Pipeline Associations, Department of Transportation-PHMSA, etc.).
• Train and oversee Company and third party personnel as required.
• Perform governmental compliance activities (Department of Transportation-PHMSA, State Agencies, Environmental Protection Agency, etc.).
• Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns.
• Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives.
• Complete all applicable documentation and record keeping.
• Perform all work in compliance with Company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Certifications, licenses, registrations:
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Company Insurance Carrier
• Must meet the criteria to maintain TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) as required by regulations.
• Achieve and maintain all qualifications and progression requirements applicable to the job classification
• May be required to achieve and maintain certifications as required to perform job duties
Competencies, skills, and abilities:
• Good record of safe work practices and work with an open and positive attitude.
• Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, various operation systems and other company software).
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, alignment sheets, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams and other drawings.
• Good verbal and written communications skills.
• Must be able to work with a team, work in an unsupervised environment, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedule, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details and follow work rules.
• Ability to speak and understand English.
Physical demands:
• Must be able to frequently climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
Working conditions:
• Must respond to, and address, callouts and emergencies after regular business hours
• Must carry a company-provided cell phone/pager, and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
• Be available for shift work when applicable.
Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
• Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
• Knowledge of company policies, procedures and practices, and regulatory requirements.
