LEAD POLICE OFFICER
Summary You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER in the Force Protection Division of NS NORFOLK SECURITY DETACHMENT. Responsibilities You will secure crime scenes for evidence collection. You will perform contingency actions in response to incidents, emergencies, and hostile actions (e.g., active shooter, hazardous materials spill, bomb threat). You will distribute and balance workload and rotations among police officers. You will administer anti-terrorism, force protection, physical security, and law enforcement services for the protection of life and property. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing law enforcement (LE), physical security (PS), antiterrorism (AT), and force protection (FP) functions; 2) Conducting preliminary and/or ongoing investigations of incidents; 3) Documenting law enforcement and security events and the issuance of citations; 4) Distributing workload to junior officers in accordance with priority and skill level. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Must successfully complete a DoD approved Police Training Academy or equivalent course, e.g. Navy Police Officer Academy; a federal or military police academy; or equivalent law enforcement training. Must also succesfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum contamination training, and OC refesher training. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ).
