Summary This position is located in the Aquatics Section of the Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation, Navy Region Hawaii, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam. The purpose of this position is to ensure that all aquatics programs and activities operate efficiently and safely according to regulations. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position works under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and receives direction/assignments orally and in writing. Provides feedback to the Aquatics Director in regard to policies, programs, procedures, training and property accountability and condition. Lead and directs all Recreation Aid (Lifeguard) and Recreation Assistant (Lifeguard/WSI positions. Interviews and recommends selection of all lifeguard positions to the Aquatics Director. Incumbent provides employees with advice, guidance and on-the-job training as appropriate for the performance of duties. Assists in the evaluations of employee performance Ensures that personnel assigned to pools perform their duties in compliance with established regulations and instructions that are outlined in applicable manuals and policies; responsible for conducting in progress work reviews of personnel with guidance from the Aquatics Director, keeping required records, time sheets, schedules and approving leave in the absence of the Aquatics Director. Responsible for and initiates rescue and recovery efforts, contacting medical personnel and performing first aid services when necessary. Ensures that all Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors attend continuous training programs and can execute emergency action plans in their areas. Responsible for a well-rounded and comprehensive aquatic program at the swimming pools. Responsible for all levels of youth and adult water safety instructional programs to include infant and parent swim through level VII, basic rescue, lifeguarding, community water safely and water safety courses. Conducts "learn to swim" programs for the Child and Youth Department as required. Leads and manages staffing, supplies, equipment, maintenance and upkeep of facilities Monitors cash handling in accordance with established policies. Ensures maintenance work for year-round facility upkeep to include but may not be limited to water chemical testing, pool vacuuming, filtration, facility equipment inspections including stands, boards, ropes, safety gear. Ensures the condition of the locker room(s) is within environmental health and safety standards. With guidance from Aquatics Director, administers written and practical water safety tests to ensure the qualifications of lifeguards and instructors assigned to the swimming pools. Ensures that all rules and regulations pertaining to the swimming pools are posted and observed as outlined in applicable regulations. Manages customer service inquiries and complaints in a diplomatic and professional manner. Organizes, conducts, and supports all special events, safety classes, swimming events in conjunction with local volunteer organizations like the American Red Cross, etc. Ensures the workplace is free from discrimination based on race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, and that EEO regulations are followed. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate must possess: American Red Cross Lifeguard and/or Water Safety Instructor certification in Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instruction/Lifeguard, Water Safety Instruction and CPR for professional rescuer or equivalent is required. A minimum of one (1) year experience in an Aquatic setting as a Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor or held a lead position with equivalent responsibilities. Must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check (NAC). Knowledge of aquatic safety, policies and regulations is required.
