Our client is a world leader in the manufacturing and distribution of analytical instrumentation used in R&D Laboratories. They have an opening for a Lead Scientist – Mechanical Surface Characterization who will be based in the Richmond, VA area. The Lead Scientist applies scientific knowledge and principles to provide in-depth training and assistance to sales staff and resolve customer questions for product lines including Mechanical Surface Characterization. This important position will represent the company as a technical expert with respect to Mechanical Surface Characterization and applications. Position reports to the VP of Advanced Technical Services
Responsibilities: Performs advanced instrument demonstrations, trainings, and installations either remotely or on-site with customers Makes recommendations for instrument configurations Works with R&D to improve instruments Involved with ISO/ASTM certifications Contributes to the development of training and/or marketing material Writes scientific articles, presents papers, and attends industry events Trains sales representatives and other product specialists on basic operations of instruments The successful candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills and must be capable of communicating equally well with Ph.D.-level scientists and QC technicians. The ability to work independently and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction are essential for success. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the scientific instrumentation space The preferred candidate will possess a M.S. or PhD degree in chemistry, engineering, physics or similar field.
