I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Works with and provides functional oversight to Self-Pay Follow Up Representatives and Self-Pay Account Resolution Representatives.
2. Intercedes on complex and varied account issues related to disputed accounts, cosmetic accounts, settlements, victim of violent crime accounts, payment plans, bankruptcy, statement skip accounts, and estate accounts 
3. Initiates collection activity on outstanding high dollar self pay balances and responds to and resolves complex account balances disputed by patients
4. Works accounts or special situations escalated by staff or upper management as required.
5. Works assigned system work queues within established protocols
6. Serves as liaison for all collection agency vendors and outsource vendors. 
7. Troubleshoots bad debt file transmission issues, transfers accounts to bad debt after established approval process. 
8. Processes all surcharge letters from the state, runs and maintains reports specific to self pay follow up and self-pay account resolution, submits ER bad debt evidence to the state, manages all Violence against Women Act (VAWA) accounts, and does any required follow up for Identity theft accounts
9. Communicates with other areas within the Revenue Cycle, clinics, physician offices, and insurance companies to resolve self pay balances. 
10. Documents all actions taken in the relevant billing system.
11. Completes daily statistic summary reports/logs.
12. Responds to staff’s daily inquiries regarding patient accounts.  

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High School Diploma required, plus additional post-secondary courses in medical billing and medical terminology.

Experience/Skill:
Required:
1. Three years of relevant work experience.
2. Thorough knowledge of third party insurance and medical terminology. 
3. Computer skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public, physicians, and others, both inside and outside of the organizations.
