Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and re-purposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

The Processing Tools team is responsible for all tools that provide expert views into the media and metadata processing pipelines as well as engineering development and deployment tools for specialized media workflows that serve operations teams responsible for publishing content to Disney’s DTC services.

Responsibilities

Craft web application software using REACT, with strong software development fundamentals and strong design principles (object oriented or functional)

Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables

Contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation

Build quality products

Provide on-call rotational support as needed

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of software engineering experience

Experience in programming with Backend and Frontend UI development and proficient with one or more general purpose programming languages (Python, Java, Javascript, etc)

Desire to work in a start-up, fast-growth, or rapid-change environment

Problem-solving skills to identify the root cause

Solid communication skills – written, and oral

Understanding of agile methodologies and git source control

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with AWS technologies and cloud infrastructure

Experience integrating media players into web applications

Solid understanding of web accessibility fundamentals.

Strong knowledge to web standards and new technologies.

Understanding of async programming models (events, callbacks, promises, async/await) and threading/concurrency

Understanding of source control concepts and systems, CI/CD pipelines and exposure to Git

Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker. Experience with messaging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, etc.)

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $156,292 to $209,660 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $149,240 to $200,200; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $163,426 to $219,230 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
