Oversees staff to meet the production goals of the Department while assuring policy and procedures are maintained according to established guidelines. Serves as liaison and resource for staff and customers regarding sterilization, processing of surgical instruments, and sterile instrument storage. Participates in the Christiana Care Health System Focus on Excellence programs and departmental performance improvement issues. (This is a working Lead Technician position.)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in training and orientation of Sterile Processing Technicians.
Mentors and train peers to achieve department goals and organizations vision.
Has an understanding of and conforms to standard procedures and methods used to decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, package, sterile, store and distribute items and instrumentation within applicable Federal, State and other regulatory agencies including Joint Commission.
Follows CCHS Safety and Infection Prevention guidelines Maintains patient confidentiality.
Prepares production report of activities as necessary, and appraises Supervisor of issues and needs. Can serve in the supervisors role as needed, assuring staffing levels are maintained and productivity issues are addressed.
Manages information utilizing appropriate manual or electronic systems for specific shift work activities. Reports any discrepancies or unusual activity to the supervisor.
Assures the prudent use of resources and efficiently maintains instruments and processing supply inventory. Serves as a resource for staff.
Evaluates the performance of the Sterile Processing Staff and recommend disciplinary actions as deemed necessary.
Consistently demonstrates required proficiencies. Serves as a role model for SPD staff, embracing diversity within the department.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate/GED required.
Associate degree preferred.
Three years SPD/Materials Management and/or related experience.
Progressive management experience preferred.
Certification in Sterile Processing
Two years precepting experience required
CRCST and CHL certifications required
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Computer proficiency.
