Lead Sterilizer Operator/Scheduler
Job Description SummaryFunctions as the Sterilization Lead Operator and Product Scheduler, which consists of operating the Sterilizer according to Company policy, State and Governmental regulations in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Strives to minimize machine downtime by working with Engineering, Regulatory, Microbiology, Plant production, Scheduling and Shipping functions to improve overall departmental performance.

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

Schedules non-sterile product. Works with production scheduler to utilize the irradiator in the most efficient manner possible. Works with Microbiology, to run at minimum allowable timer settings. Works with Sterilization facilitator to implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Creates run sheets per established schedule with appropriate dosimetry. Read out exposed dosimeters, reviews completed run sheets for accuracy and completeness and delivers to microbiology for review.

Completes all SAP transactions and maintains accurate inventories.

Works with Shipping Coordinator to fulfill customer requirements while maintaining efficient sterilization operations.

Assists in the establishment, review and update of procedures and practices associated with the Sterilizer.

Assists with mechanical, electrical and pneumatic installations, modifications, refurbishments, and repairs and preventative maintenance to all department equipment.

Works with the Production Engineering function to improve Preventative maintenance and repair activities. Coordinates the shutdown maintenance activities to insure all necessary repairs are completed.

Oversees the dose mapping program with microbiology to minimize impact of source loads and validations.

Communicates with Microbiology on issues pertaining to timer settings, carrier drawings, and cycle traceability.

Maintains compliance with established Governmental and Company safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Performs and maintains all processing records and reports ensuring ease of information retrieval for audits or other required activities.

Responsible for maintaining various department metrics and reports.

Trains newly assigned Sterilization personnel on job functions and trains all Sterilization personnel on new and revised procedures. Works with RSO and Facilitator, to improve level of knowledge and experience of all departmental personnel.

Schedules and irradiates special testing in the research loop as required by Microbiology.

Performs any other department functions as necessary to insure maximum machine efficiencies are maintained.

Fills in for other licensed operators and operator/handlers to minimize impact of absenteeism.

Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

High school education required, 2 or 4 year college degree preferred

Previous experience as a licensed sterilization operator preferred

Experience of a mechanical or electrical nature highly desirable

Must possess demonstrated leadership qualities

Should be comfortable working with associates of all levels, both in and outside the plant

A thorough understanding of Plant Good Manufacturing Practices is essential

A propensity toward continual improvement activities is required.

Must be team oriented
