AT&T has an opening for a Lead System Engineer to support a professional services effort for a US Government customer in the Washington DC metropolitan area. This Lead System Engineer role will be primarily focused on design, development and operations of IP-based real-time communications application systems and services, as well as the underlying network infrastructure that supports it. The Lead System Engineer will provide technical leadership overseeing a team of systems engineers to ensure work is efficient and project deliverables are met.
Key responsibilities of the team include design, install, configure, implement, and maintenance of mission solutions that support customer. This role requires technical expertise with multi-vendor applications, virtual environments, as well as SIP based real-time communication applications. Seeking a highly motivated leader who demonstrates effective decision making and analytical skills, high attention to detail and a strong communicator. The candidate should be comfortable working both with a team to develop and deliver solutions for the customer. Position is full-time on customer premise.
**Job Duties/Responsibilities:**
+ Provide technical guidance and oversight with a team of system engineers who deploy, configure, maintain and operate mission application systems hosted in both physical and virtual environments. This role involves regular engagement with the customer, engineering resources and third-party vendors to implement and maintain products and services supported for the customer.
+ Design, develop and implement system and network engineering support of IP-based real-time communications services to include, SIP trunking and integration, call routing policy design and configuration and enhanced messaging and automated call delivery capabilities.
+ Manage various aspects of Sponsor’s enterprise IP communications networks and applications system through all system life-cycles phases, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, implementation and future migrations.
+ Research and evaluate new/emerging technologies (hardware and software) or services and provide recommendations to the engineering team regarding the integration of these technologies into the Sponsor’s existing or future architecture.
+ Support the engineering team and the program's leadership by managing the technical aspects of projects from inception to completion including technical assessments, design, integration, testing, deployment, and operations.
+ Assist engineering team with evolving current and next generation real-time communications technologies and solutions to support mission needs of the Sponsor.
+ Create and maintain technical documentation (network designs, SOPs, User Guides, etc.) to support all areas of system configuration, administration, operation procedures and processes.
+ Serve as Tier 3 resource for O&M trouble escalation and/or work orders for network services and voice network infrastructure devices.
+ Occasional travel to different Sponsor locations domestically and within the Washington Metro Area

**Required Qualifications:**
B.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications or similar.

The following skills / prerequisites are required:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of working experience designing, configuring and implementing enterprise class real-time voice solutions to include:
+ Experience with administering, configuring, deploying and maintaining hardware such as session border controllers, TDM/IP gateways, media servers, softswitch solutions and/or IP PBXs.
+ Experience with administering, configuring, and deploying and maintaining unified communications solutions such as integration of real-time communication technologies (voice, video, messaging) and/or mobile applications.
+ Expert level familiarity with VoIP architectures and technologies, particularly Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Secure SIP, RTP, QoS protocol families as well as the interworking of these protocols with legacy circuit switched networks and protocols networks (ISDN/PRI, ISUP and SS7).
+ Hands-on experience with administering, configuring, and deploying voice solutions such as testing, configuration and administration of call control applications, contact center, session border controllers (SBCs) and IP-based clients.
+ Proficiency with design and configuration of public and private call routing plans from digit analysis to route decision trees as well as monitoring and maintenance of network quality and optimization for voice services
- Highly proficient with TCP/IP and other LAN/WAN protocols. Strong knowledge of fundamental IP routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, STP, VTP) and network and network security technologies (IPSEC VPN, NAT, QoS). Experience with Cisco and Juniper routing, switching and security products highly desired.
- Knowledgeable with establishing small to large voice networks including all phases from requirements, design, implementation and documentation.
- Candidate must be strong in analytical thinking and problem solving to investigate and troubleshoot problems, inefficiencies, and performance issues. Familiar with tools and methods for analyzing, monitoring and troubleshooting network issues or outages when they arise and demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve network and application problems using rigorous logic.
- Candidate should also have strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineering team and the Sponsor on a daily basis.
- Effectively provide training to Tier-1 to 3 staff on process and procedures relating to implementation, configuration and support of voice solutions
- Skilled in creating detailed system and network architecture, topology and flow diagrams using MS Visio
- Occasional travel to other Sponsor locations within the Washington Metro Area and domestic required.
- Candidate should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning/education both on and off the job to further enhance and develop skills and expertise.
**Desired Qualifications**

+ Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
+ Juniper Network Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA) - JUNOS
+ SIP School Certified Associate (SSCA)
- Experience or working knowledge of database applications and administration (Oracle, MySQL, PostGres)
- Experience or working knowledge of system virtualization, VMWare or equivalent
- Experience with cloud services and connectivity with providers such as AWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience with scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, Javascript, PHP) and APIs (REST, SOAP)
- Basic to intermediate system administration experience with Linux platforms and CLI
Our Lead System Engineer's earn between $108,000 - $251,700. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
