Lead Systems Administrator - Houston, Memorial (West), TX Hiring Location: Company S&B Houston Job ID 13196 Type Full-Time OVERVIEW

The Lead Systems Administrator is responsible for the analysis, configuration, maintenance, and repair of system servers and application components. This role encompasses a variety of critical tasks, including the installation, evaluation, configuration, and upgrading of servers, as well as the upkeep of related hardware to ensure optimal performance and user satisfaction.

 

In this role, you will:

 

Proactively identify potential system issues, provide recommendations, and implement effective solutions to enhance system functionality.Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software, and related procedures align with organizational values and meet performance standards.Collaborate with IT management to plan, procure, and implement system upgrades and improvements.Serve as an escalation point for the server / systems support team, providing advanced troubleshooting and resolution expertise as needed.

 

This position requires a forward-thinking mindset, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to bridge technical knowledge with strategic business needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Will supervise 3rd party contractors or vendor support technician on occasion. Up to 7 Jr. and Sr. Systems Administrators.

 

EDUCATION:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study and 15+ years’ experience

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience:

15+ years of experience in the administration and support of enterprise environments.7+ years of hands-on experience with virtualization solutions such as VMware.3+ years of experience working with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, GCP, or OCI.

 

Technical Expertise:

Proficient in Windows Server 2016 or newer, including Active Directory, File and Print Services, DFS, and Group Policy.Strong familiarity with Linux OS administration.Extensive experience with Active Directory user provisioning and management.Solid understanding of system and network logging, monitoring, and alerting.Working knowledge of networking and distributed computing concepts, including routing, bridging, switching, and network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, IPsec, NFS, SMB, and iSCSI).Expertise in file, block, and object storage, as well as storage networking.Comprehensive understanding of system configuration management, including production system patching, auditing, and system/network change management.

 

Tools and Platforms:

Experience administering Microsoft 365 products, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Entra ID.Proficiency with backup hardware and software solutions.

 

Programming and Scripting:

Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash.

 

Additional Skills:

Knowledge of database concepts and administration.Strong customer service skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under minimal supervision, ensures continuity, security, and operational efficiency of the company’s server operating environmentPerforms hardware and/or software installations, upgrades, and maintenance tasks which may require availability after regular business hoursInvestigates, troubleshoots, and resolves server hardware and software problemsPerforms provisioning and modification of user accountsPerforms regular backup and recovery tasksParticipates in change controlAssists in the development and testing of IT disaster recovery planAfter hour response to position related emergenciesOther job-related duties as assigned

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical systems documentation.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Basic mathematical and algebraic equations required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes.  This requires the ability to stand, walk, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.  Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
