What's the role?

Lead Lab Technician is a senior level position. Under minimal supervision where operations and sequences are specified by written and verbal instructions and established practices, the Lead Lab Technician will perform a wide range of tasks ranging from routine to more advanced or difficult tasks associated with the lens manufacturing processes.  The Lead Lab Technician will also train employees and assist with supervisory responsibilities.  ab Technician III is a senior level position. Under minimal supervision where operations and sequences are specified by written and verbal instructions and established practices, the Lab Technician III will perform a wide range of tasks ranging from routine to more advanced or difficult tasks associated with the lens manufacturing processes.

This position will have a variety of tasks within the department with minimal supervision. Must have solid to advanced optical knowledge. Cross training will be required within the lab and may include:

Receiving Lenses and / or Frames

Inspecting lenses

Blocking, Spotting, Taping and / or Foco

Lens Coating

Tinting

Assembling Jobs

Packaging & Shipping

Entering Data

Invoicing & Billing

Equipment Troubleshooting

Purchasing

Reporting

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine, semi-routine, and complex production duties associated with various aspects of lens production paying close attention to quality, quantity and efficiency.  Refer to the Job Matrix for further departmental specifics.

Complies with all safety standards and reports any safety concerns to leadership.

Trains and provides work direction to others and assists with supervisor responsibilities. 

Qualifies and inspects product to ensure compliance with CZV specifications and standards.

Maintains appropriate written and / or computer documentation.

Maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Generally assigned certain tasks within a specified department but has knowledge to perform majority of the tasks within a specified department.

Employs troubleshooting techniques to determine cause of instrument / machine failure and implement repairs where necessary.

Cross trains in other areas and departments.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned.

Works in different workstations or product lines as production needs require.

Participates in meetings to enhance departmental communication and efficiency.

COMPLEXITY

​Senior / Lead Levels – Regularly works on tasks that are varied and complex. Applies full range of specialized skills and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; may serve as lead; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help establish procedures in functional area; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.

CONDITIONS

Manufacturing – Climate controlled environment is fast paced with rapidly changing priorities. Works with frequent exposure to noise, moisture, heat / cold and continuous exposure to dust. May have exposure to flammable solvents. Must wear applicable protective safety equipment. Working additional hours on short notice, including weekends, may be required.

EQUIPMENT USED

Production – May be assigned to one or more of the following machines taping machine, blocker, generator, finer and polisher, wash line, backside coating machine, AR coating machine, lensometer, finish blocker, edger, hand etchers, groover, drill, hand tools and other machines as determined by management.
