Lead Trader, Power System

Position Summary

Provides leadership, support, and daily direction to Power System Traders to ensure reliable and optimal economic operation of the Xcel Energy Power Systems, specific to a particular operating company.

Essential Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership in areas such as trading strategies, system dispatch, and market optimization. Provide guidance to Power System Traders to assist with opportunity analysis, decision making, and emergency response.Maintain performance metrics for Power System Traders. Develop and produce regular reports on trader performance. Provide data and observations to management for use in coaching, developing, and providing feedback to the Power System Traders.Monitor daily system operations to identify opportunities for improved dispatch, trading, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Independently develop policy changes as required. Develop and/or maintain monitoring displays and data visualization tools for system accuracy and situational awareness.Analyze and troubleshoot operational problems. Independently work with generating facilities, transmission providers, RTOs, and IT staff to resolve conflicts.Audit Power System Traders' trade entry, Operations Log entries, cost assignment, and regulatory documentation for accuracy and completeness. Make corrections and coach traders as necessary.Create training materials and provide training to Power System Traders. Create and/or maintain procedural documents and references as needed.Support and carry out other special projects and duties as assigned.Perform the on-shift duties of Power System Trader as needed to fill-in during staff shortages.


Minimum Requirements

BS or BA in business, economics, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent work experience.Minimum 5 years of experience in power system dispatching.Knowledge of power systems operations in organized wholesale energy markets.NERC certification required within 6 months of hire.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively lead a team required.Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.Ability to occasionally work a 12-hour shift to provide staff coverage.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $110,700.00 to $157,167.00 per year
