About Target:

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here.

Target UX is a group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts, with a passion for improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target’s guests, team members, and partners. Here, we pride ourselves on designing tangible, inspiring, and impactful solutions that serve all aspects of our business– and being a part of the team means you will play a critical role for Target’s digital experience by increasing ease, simplicity, value, and delight for every touchpoint.

About the role:

As a Lead Product Designer within our Guest Experience team, your mission is to deliver best-in-class digital shopping experiences for our guests by delivering both functional proof of concepts and in-market launches in partnership with product, engineering, and other cross-functional peers and leaders through UX sprint frameworks (i.e., discovery, co-creation, future-visioning). In this role, you will focus on deeply understanding the human need, changes in consumer trend and behavior, business opportunity, and Target’s brand potential to design and prototype new experiences for a small portfolio of actionable, multi-horizon strategies. You will bring meaningful guest journeys and experiences to life by thinking holistically, pragmatically, and through the lens of innovation while setting a high bar for craft and quality.

You are an excellent prototyper, fluent in selecting the right tools to explore new and emerging interaction, technology, and experience paradigms. You are skilled at explaining design recommendations to non-design stakeholders through your creation of interactive prototypes—You deliver the right fidelity at the right time—ranging from rapid, low-fi interactions perfect for iteration in user studies to more emotive prototypes featuring high-craft visuals, motion, and sound. You understand guest needs, omni-channel retail, and the role that UX plays in driving engagement, loyalty, delight, and trust while delivering business results. You are proactive, curious, ask questions, and are driven to connect the dots. You will leverage both your technical expertise and tried-and-true design craft to understand and prioritize guest needs, co-develop near and long-term design strategies, and deliver a best-in-class guest experience for Target.

Responsibilities:

Develop high-quality visual, interaction, and motion designs and protoypes for digital and omni-channel experiences and platforms – influencing strategy, investment, collaboration models, and the balance of new vs. iteration

Collaborate within UX sprints for discovery, co-creation, future-visioning, and functional proof of concept delivery for emerging experiences in partnership with product, engineering, and other cross-functional peers and leaders.

Investigate new opportunities using tools that prototype visual design, interactions, motion, and other modes of interaction, including sound

Align internal stakeholders, accelerate experimentation, and enable us to innovate more rapidly while scaling UX learnings and best-practices across teams

Create deliverables representative of both exploratory and go-to-market design phases – such as wireframes, user flows, UI design, and prototypes

Guide design process and mentor junior designers

Hold design work to a high standard of craft, including accessibility, user research, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and service design

Advance a culture of human-centered practice within UX, product, and engineering teams

Build a network of relationships to enable your vision in service of our guest experience and Target as a whole

About you:

7+ years experience as a senior or lead product designer or design technologist with a strong portfolio showcasing successful product and service design work

You thrive at the intersection of design strategy, scaled solutions, and craft

Expert skills in UX, product design, and prototyping, as well as structuring and planning work, and owning the design process
