Job Summary:

The primary function of this role is to provide engaging workplace user experience for Duke Energy Teammates through the development and implementation of a uniform framework for workplace strategy and design with clear boundaries for implementation on Real Estate Projects and governance of existing space.

The Workplace Strategy Program Manager is and oversees subject-matter-experts who establish the design, planning, and occupancy/utilization standards for corporate and operations facilities managed by Real Estate across the enterprise. This role governs the application of workplace strategy, design, and standards across Real Estate Projects and collaborates with Business Unit Partners on strategies to deliver repeatable, scalable, and cost sustainable facility assets and solutions. Governance includes defining clear space planning strategies and frameworks, defining and governing corporate Real Estate policies regarding use of space, maintaining design standards and specifications, establishing internal benchmarks leveraging utilization data, and providing a shared online repository to store and communicate documentation on policy, practices, protocols, processes, procedures, workplace strategy, and design + construction standards.

Responsibilities:

The intent of the role is to:

Establish a vision and strategy for the workplace experience at Duke Energy and drive its implementation across Real Estate Projects (Transform for the Future)

Drive value and savings by assessing the baseline cost of our workplace standards and proposing innovative solutions to reduce total cost while maintaining an optimal workplace experience to all Duke Energy teammates

Bring consistency across Real Estate projects by establishing uniform workplace standards based on proven industry best practices, advanced developments, and company objectives

Define and own space planning utilization strategies and programmatic requirements (Dynamic Workplace Strategy) to support a Hybrid work environment – defining/maintaining ratio of desks and offices per teammate, collaboration spaces, etc. – all essential for right-sizing Duke Energy’s Real Estate portfolio and providing consistency across the enterprise

Establish internal and external benchmarks for utilization analytics and define appropriate checks and balances for maintaining the health of Duke Energy workplaces

Partner with and guide internal service providers (ISPs) and external partners on standards to support the dynamic workplace strategy – without direct authority, i.e. AV, Print Services, EPS, etc.

The Workplace Strategy Program Manager has ultimate accountability for the Duke Energy Workplace Standards (DEWS) SharePoint site which is both external facing for Third Pary Consultants and Vendors and internal facing for the Real Estate organization and Internal Service Providers.

The Workplace Standards Program Manager supports Real Estate projects by working directly with the 3rd party strategic design partners for all Duke Energy service territories. Design partners consult with the Workplace Standards Program Manager to obtain insights and clarification for any current or new design concepts or expectations. The Workplace Standards Program is responsible for approving design for Real Estate projects prior to full funding approval in partnership with our Real Estate Portfolio Managers and Project Managers.

This role collaborates with Real Estate groups and ISPs to ensure that design standards are understood and implemented. In particular:

The Workplace Standards Program Manager advises Real Estate representatives who are responsible for delivering the message of Workplace Strategy directly to Business Partners. This role owns the workplace exception process and committee.

The Workplace Standards Program Manager oversees the work the Occupancy Planning (OP) team to ensure proper allocation of the Dynamic Workplace programmatic standards on projects. Workplace Strategy also directs OP on utilization reports of existing spaces, establishing internal benchmarks for space use and communicating opportunities for consolidation or needs for additional space. The Workplace Standards Program Manager oversees resources that manage and maintain Real Estate electronic records such as as-build and other design drawings.

The Workplace Standards Program Manager collaborates with Duke Energy Asset Management and Facilities Management to provide guidance on space modification requests, protocol adjustments, and infrastructure standards for future projects.

The Workplace Standards Program Manager works closely with the Duke Energy Real Estate Portfolio Managers (REPM) and Project Developers (PDs) for any new construction or renovations projects. Workplace Strategy reviews and approves design progress throughout 30, 60, 90% phases of the design process, and provides direction when there are design issues, exceptions, or unique requirements. The role answers questions, provides guidance, solves issues, and verifies that the design standards are embraced and integrated into the Real Estate projects across the enterprise.

The Manager of Workplace Standards collaborates directly with Internal Service Providers to establish standards that align with the overall workplace experience set by Workplace Strategy. This includes partnering and hosting design standards and specifications on DEWS for non-Real Estate functions (i.e. AV, IT/T, EPS, Print Services, among others.) that play an important role in functionality and user experience of facilities.

The Manager of Workplace Standards proactively seeks recommendations from Business Unit partners, Asset and Facilities Management, among others and makes decisions on what to embrace as a design standard – considering the evolving needs of the business and the role of technology.

Basic/Required Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, or Other Related Degree.

Minimum of 5 years related work experience

In lieu of Bachelors degree AND 5 years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 9 year(s) related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in business, industrial design, project management, or related field

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite

Team player, can-do attitude, and flexibility

Excellent organization and documentation skills

Critical thinking

Excellent oral, written communication skills

Experience developing excellent presentation material for all levels of leadership

Strong negotiating and active listening skills. Ability to develop consensus among multiple parties with varying interests

Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively while maintaining focus on priorities

Demonstrated collaboration trades to effectively work across silos and to achieve positive outcomes

Understanding of Duke Energy’s Real Estate organization

Working Conditions:

Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

3-day in person requirement per week

Environmental Conditions – office setting and occasional visits to job sites

Physical Requirements – it may require prolonged sitting

Schedule – flexible within the Hybrid expectations.

Specific Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in architecture, industrial design, or related field

5 years or related work experience

10 years of related experience in lieu of a degree

LEED accreditation, NCIDQ and AIA certifications or ability to obtain in the first two years
