Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Role Definition** At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble large mining and construction equipment. In this role as a Lean 6 Sigma Black Belt, you will report to the Product Support Manager and will be primarily responsible for leading project teams to improve critical business processes for Large Wheel Loaders (LWL) and Wheeled Dozers and Compactors(WDC) products that drive financial results and quality improvement. As a member of the Product Support team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. We have a fabulous team that does some of the most exciting work at Caterpillar, and we can’t wait for you to join the team! **Responsibilities** + As with all 6 Sigma Black Belts, individuals in these roles will be asked to train and lead improvement project teams. After completion of their training, Level One Black Belts should be capable of leading projects with an average savings per project of $150,000 and concurrently lead 1-3 projects of this magnitude. + Lead projects where the subject focus and solutions are moderately complex in nature, availability, and attainability. Lead improvement projects within the value center and effectively coordinate these projects with the Project Sponsor and other improvement project teams. Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, using good project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects using Design of Experiments and other methodology, tracking project status and results, removing, and elevating project barriers, and developing team members. It is also critical to identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals. + This position will support the factory quality team to ensure robust stop capability is in place as part of End-to-End BIQ process and review Additive events for the group. + Collaborate with process partners with Factory and Engineering BIQ projects and support governance. + This position has significant impact on the success of 6 Sigma. The improvements will improve the company’s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce cost and increase profits. + Must be a results-oriented change agent who is an effective business systems thinker. Must be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project. **Top Candidate Will Have:** + Prior Factory Quality experience with Pre-Delivery Inspections and Audits (PDI/PDA) and familiarity with audit checklists and gates. + User experience of Quality and Reliability systems including SIMSi, SISweb, RWA, QRQM + CPI Team Leader or 6 Sigma Black Belt experience leading complex projects + Ability to teach others about As-Delivered Quality and Reliability metrics (2 and 12 MIS DPU) + Data analytics experience associated with product quality + 6 Sigma Black Belt certification or similar certification by ASQ + Demonstrated project management, team leadership and communication skills. + Knowledgeable with various functional teams that CPI Black Belts interacts with regularly: Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing and Operations, Supply Chain, Service Engineering and Dealer network. + Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders & strong business acumen will be essential to achieve success in this role. + Strong analytical skills and capabilities. Ability to draw insights from data to make quick, well informed decisions with 80% information. **What Skills You Will Have:** **Analytical Thinking:** • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance. • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions. • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns. • Identifies the major forces, events and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand. • Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions. **Problem Solving:** • Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives. • Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder. • Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information. • Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution. • Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems. **Process Improvement:** • Defines the critical workflow for executing key processes. • Identifies process problems that limit performance. • Implements methods for improving and establishing controls for critical processes. • Focuses on the most significant problems to maximize efficiency gains. • Surfaces systemic problems to be addressed at the organizational level. **Six Sigma Methodology:** • Analyzes business priorities for selecting potential critical metrics. • Uses tools (e.g. trend charts, Pareto charts, sigma conversion chart) to measure historical performance. • Researches important causes that have an impact on quality and customer satisfaction with the use of statistical tools. • Resolves routine problems in a cost effective manner. • Reports deviances from process improvements. **Additional Information:** The primary location for this position is Decatur, IL Domestic relocation assistance is available This position may require 10% travel Visa sponsorship is not available **Summary Pay Range:** $110,520.00 - $165,840.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
