LEAN ENGINEER
The Lean Engineer will provide hands-on leadership to deploy, implement and drive the Lean Program at the respective repair & maintenance facilities. This position will spearhead the conversion to a lean organization driving the implementation of Value Stream Management, Safety, 5S, TPM, Standard Work, Kanban/Pull Systems, Root-Cause Problem Solving, Quality at the Source, Lean Daily Management, SMED, POKE-YOKE, Just-in-time, cellular manufacturing, A3/PDCA Problem Solving and similar tools to create to drive and sustain a new culture of continuous improvement and workshop efficiency. The Lean Engineer will design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems to enable optimized production efficiency while maintaining focus on cost efficient solutions, sustaining high quality product results, and enabling design for manufacturability in new designs. The Lean Engineer will provide guidance and support for solving complex technical problems that arise in manufacturing production. This role will also coordinate the orderly transition and installation of new processes and/or methods in accordance with product specifications with a Lean Manufacturing approach. This position will work closely with other functions in the facility including Service Quality, Warehousing, Repair & Maintenance, Procurement, HSE, Finance, Operation, Human Resources and Quality. OPERATIONS • Coordinate the deployment and roll out of the Lean Program with R&M Manager and Facility leadership team, including developing, deploying, and sustaining lean processes. • Develop and drive Value Stream Mapping (VSM), including developing VSM continuous improvement road maps and action plans • Identify, create, and sustain standard processes throughout the organization • Implement Shop Daily Management (SDM). • Identify process improvement opportunities in collaboration with the R&M managers & Supervisors and the other functional leaders, employees and customers and categorize opportunities as improvement vs action activities, projects, or kaizen events. • Facilitate lean daily management, promote initiatives to create Lean culture including Gemba walk, Safety, 5S/visual management. • Support both process and transactional productivity improvement or waste reduction projects with respect to the R&M focus. • Design and develop manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems at the plant level to improve process capability, quality and manufacturing readiness • Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products • Create BOMs and routings for newly released Part Numbers and revise BOMs and routings when processes are updated and/or Lean Manufacturing efforts create increased efficiency of the manufacturing steps • Design, develop, test, source and cost-justify various tools, machinery and equipment for new or improved manufacturing methods • Identify and develop collaborative solutions for issues within the production workflow such as level loading, production bottlenecks, machine reliability, general production related work flow waste • Make key decisions, resolve issues and oversee projects to shape manufacturing success • Prepare or direct the Model facility and/or equipment layout and detail drawings in CAD Engineering software • Providing technical guidance for manufacturing activities • Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls • Support the Quoting process and Order Management process by supplying pertinent information as required • Write procedures and reports COMMUNICATION • Maintains effective communications with all key stakeholders both internal and where appropriate external. • Collaborate with Engineering department in order to have to ensure all items (upper level and sub levels) of BOM is entered into Windchill • Collaborate with Purchasing, Category Management and Mfg to simulate and assign the manufacturing COGS to parts/product • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams to develop, innovate and implement manufacturing technology best practices FINANCIAL • All employees have an accountability to the organisation to be financially responsible whether they oversee a function budget or simply their own expenses. • Costs incurred should be within approved budget, processed within agreed time frames & following the relevant financial policy and procedure. • Support, and coach the R&M team for CI projects and Kaizen that deliver a bottom level result for the company. • Prepare feasibility studies and thorough cost justification for projects • Monitor production output and collaborate to implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT • Employees have a responsibility for developing their own careers within the Company including completing all necessary function, compliance & business standards training to enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience. • Employees should engage on a regular basis with their line manager to discuss their personal performance, objectives, and opportunities to enhance their skills and experience to support their career potential. • Teach the lean training curriculum. VISION & LEADERSHIP • Demonstrates leadership, ethical behaviour, and adherence to Weatherford standards at all times. • Provide the necessary leadership to promote change and lean transformation efforts throughout the assigned R&M Facility Experience & Education REQUIRED • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering required. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in lean manufacturing as a continuous improvement leader, lean lead, black belt, or similar role. • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineer roles. • Proven experience as Kaizen Facilitator. • Successful practical experience in VSM, 5S, 5Why, TPM, Standard Work, Mistake Proofing, SIPOC, Process Mapping, Kanban, SMED, Types of Waste & Waste Reduction, Visual Management, Shop Floor Management, Hoshin Planning, Cellular Manufacturing, PDCA and/or DMAIC cycles. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities REQUIRED • Knowledge of machine design, welding processes and/or any special manufacturing processes (conformal coating, grinding, elastomer manufacturing, painting, bonding, etc.). • Expert on router, process steps, cycle time and process simplification. • Expert on process definition and disposition of NCR. • Expert on AutoCAD.
