Position Summary
The Lean Engineer supports the organization’s lean transformation by driving process improvement initiatives across Heavy Civil, Underground, Marine and industrial construction projects and office functions. This role collaborates with teams to identify opportunities for efficiency, waste reduction, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of lean thinking.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· Facilitate lean workshops and kaizen events to implement improvements in project and office processes.
· Assist project teams in applying lean tools and methodologies, such as value stream mapping, Last Planner® System, and 5S.
· Analyze and manipulate cost and production data for metric and dashboard creation.
· Support the development and deployment of standard work practices.
· Collect, analyze, and present data on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of lean initiatives.
· Act as a coach and mentor to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
· Develop training materials and deliver lean-related training sessions to project teams.
· Document and share best practices across the organization to promote learning and replication of successful initiatives.
· Travel to project sites and office locations to provide hands-on support and training.
Skills and Abilities
· Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.

· Proficient in lean tools and methodologies, including value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and Pull Planning.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to influence and engage team members at all levels of the organization.
· Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
· Familiarity with heavy civil construction practices is preferred but not required.
· Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly. Spanish fluency a plus.
· Travel required to project sites and office locations up to 75% of the time.
Education/Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, industrial engineering or a related field preferred.
· 3-5 years of experience in implementing lean practices, preferably in construction or manufacturing industries.
· Certification in lean methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green Belt) is a plus.
