Position Summary: ATS is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Intern to join our team. The intern will apply lean operations principles to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our laboratory processes. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applying lean operations principles in a real-world lab setting while contributing to meaningful improvements. A successful candidate should be a proactive learner who can understand processes, identify improvements, and implement solutions. The intern will use the PG&E Clear Sky Playbook to apply lean practices in the lab, focusing on waste elimination through 5S principles. They will work closely with experienced professionals and receive mentorship and guidance.

 

Position will split time between San Ramon and Emeryville facilities.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with lab staff to identify areas for process improvement and implement lean operations principles. Conduct time and motion studies to analyze current lab workflows and identify inefficiencies. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline lab processes. Assist in the design and layout of lab workstations to optimize space utilization and workflow. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, 5S Principles, and root cause analysis. Collect and analyze data to measure the impact of implemented changes and report findings to management. Support lab staff in adopting and sustaining lean practices through training and coaching. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized lab environment.

Qualifications:

Strong understanding of lean operations principles and methodologies. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in data analysis and process mapping tools. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Minimum:

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field. Continuing education toward the degree during and/or after the internship.

Desired:

Completed Lean Management Training and Experience applying lean principles to improve operations efficiency Previous internship, co-op, or work-related experience.
