The Office of Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking to appoint three Learning Experience Design Technologists. The successful candidate will be offered a 14-month fixed term contract. The position is based in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
Brief Description
The position will suit a self-motivated individual with a passion for learning experience design aimed at supporting students self-directed learning, and the use of appropriate innovative educational technologies to promote active learning strategies and collaborative learning. The candidate should be comfortable communicating with academics and administrators at all levels as (s)he will collaborate with various stakeholder groups.
The key performance areas for this position are:
Design learning experiences: Collaborate with subject experts to create engaging learning activities to enhance retention and promote a vibrant learning culture. Design virtual learning environments: Develop virtual (online) learning environments (VLE) in the University Learning Management System for new and existing courses according to best practice. Teach in academic professional learning opportunities: Facilitating professional learning opportunities aimed at equipping academic and administrative staff with technical skills to use instructional techniques and tools available in the University.
Requirements
Academic qualifications
A matric is required for this position. Preference will be given to candidates who are in progress towards or completed a higher qualification in the field of Instructional Design, Training & Development, Educational Studies or other relevant discipline.
Work experience
A minimum of 1 year of Higher Education working experience, mainly involving the appropriate use of a variety of educational technologies in the design and development of blended and/or online learning experiences and virtual learning environments.
Skills
Computer literacy and proficiency in software such as the Office365 suite of programmes.
Good inter-personal and communication skills.
Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
Attention to detail.
Desirable competencies
Preference will be given to candidates with skills in production of learning objects and educational media using equipment and software such as:
o video recording, photography, and/or editing equipment and software
o graphic design software
o other standard multimedia development tools.
Willingness to engage in continuing professional and personal learning.
