Leave of Absence and Benefits Specialist
Description We are searching for a Leave of Absence and Benefits Specialist to join our team in Sacramento, California. In this role, you will be managing and administering employee benefits, overseeing the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and acting as a liaison for all employees. This role offers a contract to hire employment opportunity. Responsibilities: • Oversee the Agency's automated Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to optimize its capabilities. • Act as the point of contact for employees in relation to benefits and Workers' Compensation. • Coordinate with insurance brokers and carriers regarding benefit issues, problems, and claims. • Monitor the weekly Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and perform quality checks of electronically processed enrollments and terminations for the Agency's insurance plans and COBRA notifications. • Conduct new hire initial benefits overview and monitor the HRIS system for enrollments. • Participate in benefit plan negotiations, decisions, and implementation of all Agency benefits and insurance coverage. • Coordinate the annual Benefits Committee and annual open enrollment, annually updating all benefit premium changes with the Agency's cafeteria plan administrator and HRIS system. • Handle Workers' Compensation claims with the carrier and coordinate open claims with carrier, treating physician, and employee until closed. • Serve as a resource to managers and employees relating to all Agency leaves of absence, State Disability Insurance (SDI), Paid Family Leave Insurance (PFLI) benefits, and personnel policies and procedures. • Participate in the preparation of the Agency's special projects as requested by the Human Resources Director. Requirements • Proficiency in Benefit Functions • Experience in Claim Administration • Expertise in Cobra Administration • Excellent Communication skills • Familiarity with Leave of Absence policies and procedures • Comfortable working in a team environment • Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously • Strong attention to detail • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to benefits and leaves of absence • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
