Lecturer, Financial Management for Leaders - Remote (Faculty Wage)

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants to fill a tenure-ineligible part-time, limited term, adjunct Lecturer position for the online Leadership Graduate Certificate Program.

Specifically, we seek a Lecturer with notable experience practicing and teaching financial management to adult learners. The course is:  

PSLP 5340 Financial Management for Leaders.  


The opening exists for the Spring 2025 term, and we target a mid-February course start. Future offerings may be either in the fall, spring, and summer academic semesters.

While the primary intent is to hire for PSLP 5340, we will consider applicants for other courses that relate to financial management and budgeting in the context of SCPS certificate programs.  


Course Information

This is a required course for students pursuing the online Leadership Certificate, which is described online here. This continuing education program predominantly serves working adult learners. 

The course description reads: Examines how value is measured, created, and maximized. Beginning with an introduction to accounting, instruction covers the fundamentals of measuring and reporting revenue, costs, cash flow, assets, liabilities, and equity. Explores the financial decisions that management must make, including break-even analysis, budgeting, investment in assets, and funding with debt equity

A syllabus and Canvas setup exists, which the successful candidate is invited to adapt while still attaining the learning objectives. The current course design is 10 weeks in length and offered in an online asynchronous format. Non-mandatory live class sessions are scheduled periodically throughout the semester. Class size averages range from approximately 12-24 students. 

Qualifications

SCPS employs instructors who have applicable content expertise at the appropriate level and who provide evidence of recent and/or current professional experience which applies to students’ achieving the goals and learning outcomes of the program. Relevant expertise is required.

This position is for graduate-level instruction. A Masters or terminal degree is required, preferably in an area related to the course content.

Previous online teaching or training experience is also required (this includes familiarity with the use of technology in teaching, experience working with adult learners, and in online instruction). A terminal degree in a related field is preferred

Strong written and oral communication skills are highly desirable.
